Pros
Good company where collaboration and networking will fetch you success
Cons
1. Subjective ranking system 2. People misusing ranking system to bring down hardworking people by using Knowledge of others feedback. 3. Its a thrill ride at end of year as you need to prove every year among the basket of people in your same level outside your department as well..

After from salary I don't think there is anything good about this company after 2-3 years the hike will be very poor.
Cons
They hire you at high package. Then later you won't find any job with this package and they will not give any good hike you will be stuck here for ever. Policies are very much discriminated compared to those in Houston. Management in india is very poor. Lots of politics. And the poorest thing of all is the ranking system. Its relative ranking. Even though you have performed well it will be compared with others even though they get high salary.

Good learning opportunities. But Hire & Fire policy.

Challenging assignments. Lot of opportunities to learn and grow.
Cons
In its heart lies the infamous ranking system which ejects out even high performers based on their relative performance. Then hires others paralelly to replace them. This is absolutely crazy!!

The company is going down the drain, clearly preparing for a future merger/acquisition with Chevron.

The initial pay is fine. The matching savings plan is coming back for the foreseeable future. It’s a great name on the resume and will take you far. Great way to change companies.
Cons
Toxic culture. Toxic supervisors/managers cover for toxic supervisors/managers. The ghost layoffs are masked under the new ranking process to force employees out of the company. A ranking system that is used to layoff employees, particularly those new, older age or with the company for over 10 years. Compensation does not keep up with inflation or cost of living. Be prepared to deal with HR incompetence when trying to get a straight answer about ranking results. Company is a house of cards that will not change with the times/move swiftly like tech companies for example. It’s an imploding dinosaur. First and second line supervisors are not screened properly. Which is why the company becomes a breeding ground for a toxic micro cultures all across the company, up to the very top. There’s great managers out there but they usually can’t do much to stop the fires or poison seeping to other areas of the company. It’s a sad story. Once mighty Exxon, it has become a sad story of fallen giant. Its internal culture is a mirror image of the public’s toxic perception of the company. People should continue leaving. Other companies pay better and promote employees all throughout their career.

Employees are Good, Management Could be Better
14 Oct 2021 - Facilities Engineer in Midland, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
A lot of the people you work with are delightful, willing to teach, and genuinely want to be productive helpful employees. A lot of employees are willing to mentor and the career opportunities at the corporation are fantastic. Pay was great, benefits too. Best I've seen in the energy industry.
Cons
Forced ranking system is archaic and disincentives team work. Insecure employees end up working for themselves rather than the good of the corporation and turn to political games that help nobody except make themselves look good at the expense of productivity for the company Some employees and their managers in field offices are glaringly inappropriate. Good ole boy mentality outside Houston. Employees are highly commoditized and WFH is not accomodated

Not attractive anymore. Not really having work-life balance
29 Aug 2021 - IT Engineer in BangkokRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good working environment. Very nice colleagues. Opportunity to work in a global environment.
Cons
Very conservative. Poor sitaution handling to retain talented employees (during oil price crisis, pandamic). Always say there salary program is competitive even when most of us say it is not. Flexible hours, they don't track you work hours, but that means you don't get paid for overtime. Most people overwork especially teams with multiple locations, as you kind of forced to have meetings at night and/or early morning to connect with your other locations. Sometimes I have 7-10 pm meetings multiple days a week. So they promote work-life balance. Easy to say for higher management positions, not really for the real working people. Bad ranking system (or 'assessment' they call). You have to go through a very stressful performance summary every year. And as the others have said, even if you are very good at your job, if you don't know how to present yourself, not well-known to the assessors group, you are likely to get not-so-good result. Some jobs also automatically have advantage over others for assessment.

Sad to see it going downhill as a workplace like this
25 Jun 2021 - Planner in The Woodlands, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Pay remains somewhat competitive Bright and talented people still works here
Cons
This used to be a good to place to work, not the greatest company for innovation, creativity or teamwork but the trade off was a stable “hire to retire” culture with solid business fundamentals, focus on safety and the chance of working with experienced and solid professionals. Yes you had to deal with a ranking system that destroyed any attempt of having a collaborative environment, and culture was focused on following procedures and working for complying with internal audits instead of fostering new ideas and teamwork, but working hard was typically rewarded and you could count on a long term career… Everything dramatically changed the last couple of years, ranking system was redesigned to make it easier to place employees at the bottom, you could be a sustained good performer for 5+ years and suddenly end up being offered a 3 lay off package for having had a “bad year”. There have been layoffs all across functions and affiliates, and the company demanded employees to return to the office back as early as May 2020, when pandemic was still at its peak… Environment became toxic and morale is at its lowest, and key benefits also took a hit. This has been a fundamental shift away from what used to be company core values, and a real shame. Unless this is your only option, I would discourage anyone to join EM at the moment.

Became an unmotivating place to work after COVID-19
1 Sept 2021 - Chemical Engineer in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Above average salary Smart, friendly coworkers Insurance benefits Retirement and pension
Cons
Non-transparent leadership. Politics, general bureaucracy continue to trump culture change attempts and ranking. Ranking relative to peers - so there will always be someone in the bottom to fire no matter how talented/hard working they are. Ranking system focused on number of worklist items completed and not taking into account intangible impacts like mentoring, taking initiative to step up to fill gaps for advising, creating/maintaining strong teams and a positive culture. Supervisors resist real change despite being advocates for culture change. Culture change driven from top down and formed to suit leadership although presented to satisfy the majority of the workforce. Company struggles to remedy low moral after COVID-19; 401k match paused and sizeable firings disguised as headcount studies and performance rankings. Company leadership has directly replied to the workforce that they should be happy and thankful they still have a job when asked what the leadership's plan was to resolve low morale and restore the elements that attract and retain employees. Only 2 weeks vacation for new hires, do not get 3rd week until 5 years of service (they do honor previous employment).
