    Pros

    - You are bound to get anything if you are a "CHATU". In other words, keep your team lead/manager engaged with you for all the irrelevant talks you might have from new cell phones to new data recharges and it is bound to give you benefits (a foreign tour or higher salary increment) - No one cares about you, what you do. All the higher management wants is billable hours and on time delivery. Its the other people... in different locations (Houston/Singapore/Norway) who better deal with setting scopes and deadlines for projects. Why a pro? - you can set up deadlines according to your needs and managers in India will be happy to see you delivering projects at right time. - A good mix of talented freshers (mind you, the intake of fresh grads is drastically reducing from top tier colleges as FMC india is not able to fulfill the needs and retain people from IIT's). Anyhow, it has a good atmosphere with lot of young and chill people willing to put efforts to learn new things. - A better work-personal life balance. you will get time to enjoy your personal life provided you do proper planning of your tasks. This place is good for people having hometown in Hyderabad but for outsiders, you get way too less leaves to go to enjoy at some tourist spot without loss of pay. - international work ex - Yes, you might chance to visit and work at different locations (Houston/ Norway/ Laban/ Brazil / Etc. ) but it is getting increasingly rare (no thanks to oil market slump) but as mentioned earlier, if you are a CHATU you might see your name appearing in the VISA list quite often. - Learning - If you are new, you will be happy to learn the industry jargon's and few amazing drawings and animations of machines and other equipment's. But, mind you only PPT's and videos. Little or no hands on experience in FMC India. God knows, a testing lab exist which keeps running a particular test all year long , so nothing new to learn in it. If you are experienced, be ready for a surprise, the top management has no work experience in oil and gas sector. No one is going to teach you learn and knowledge transfer is only in words. You need to scroll through PPTs and videos to learn things yourself. - Supportive people - working people have a good team spirit and help each other quite often. people are approachable and are always ready to share their experiences and clear your doubts. A hands up to the young people out there who have energy and are willing to make a mark. But, again a catch, the motivation has been decreasing with all the good people leaving the company (attrition is around 30% on minimum conservative estimate)

    Cons

    - Big and Bigger talks - Don't get fooled by company's leadership status in the global market. They will try to sell you everything you want but, remember this is FMC India. You need to keep minimum expectations to not to get surprised by the fancy talks and no results - Irrelevant experiences of managers - all the managers are from a different background rather than oil and gas sector ( its my honor to tell you... the reason behind it - FMC India cant afford quality managers with relevant work ex). so, don't get surprised when they don't understand what you are doing and what you want. - Waste of hardwork - No matter how much you work or spend 16 hours in office, no one is going to give you a reward for it. everyone gets a similar salary increment (except a few chatus which i mentioned earlier). It makes me bow my head down to say that if you work in this company for three years, you get an appreciation award of three thousand rupees! three thousand rupees - yes you heard it right. - feedback meetings - welcome to the world of the conductive environment of FMC india. you will be forced to attend all hands meetings, skip level meetings, some group surveys, brown bag meetings, and what not. The outcome - is again unsurprisingly - nothing. they take the inputs, put in a bag and throw it in the garbage. The management will make promises but as it is said, keep showing the carrot, the donkey will keep running. - Facilities and Perks - straight answer to perks - nothing. Facilities - a coffee machine only. they started up a snack center which is a good initiative , but its a matter of time to see till it lasts. - Qualtiy of people - Managers as told dont have relevant work ex. there is a lot of favoritism and politics have played the role before even to get to know about it. Lot of experienced and quality people have left the company and others are on the same way. reasons are obvious - come here and get to know them all. - policies - anything that favors FMC India is used. The global policies are for namesake and again remember this is FMC India.

    Pros

Very good place to begin working for mechanical engineers. Pure core job and fmc being leader in subsea with 70% market share, and the most innovative, means you really get challenging and pioneering tasks. You don't need any soft skills, or need to sell yourself. This being an oem, it relies only on good engineers. The issue in India office is people comparing their salaries with google and microsoft and not with... companies like tata motors and mahindra and bajaj, which are mechanical. Initial package is normal but once you prove yourself, you get salary hikes of 20% and above and will reach six digit within 4-5 years. But very few have the zeal to first perform and then being rewarded, every one here wants the salary first.

    Cons

Management is not really keen to ensure proper justice. It waits for the people who cry , shout and rewards them. The performers sit in a corner honestly working, without much hue and cry, but in the end the people who cry and have GOOD TERMS WITH management &PERCEIVED BEING AN EXPERT WITHOUT ACTUALLY BEING ONE, get almost the same treatment and opportunities ( in some teams much more) than actual stars. This is the... biggest demoraliZing factor in an otherwise wonderful company. Also because the managers have lost touch with engineering and are not able to judge good from ordinary, hence are fooled by words.

    Advice to Management

One advice to upper management - get rid of sycophants and have a fool proof appraisal system. Their are no sticks.. and most of the carrots are distributed to non deserving people who lick the boots. Not that performing people aren't rewarded, they just deserve much more.

I have been working at FMC Technologies for more than a year

    Pros

I have been working with FMC for over an year now.. FMC being one on the leading technology provider you have enormous Product catalog which will be very exiting to learn. FMC India being relatively younger organization it feels like extended college with good work/life balance. Pay is also competitive compared to other mechanical Eng companies for freshers. Good company to start as a mechanical engineer...,being mainly focused on design of the equipment it becomes challenging at times and pushes the envelope. Being a satellite center FMC India does not have the freedom to reward employees in career aspect beyond certain limit, but if you fortunate enough to travel abroad then you will get rewarded for due diligence.

    Cons

Specific to FMC India Too much politics/favoritism - No transparency at all in promoting/rewarding the employees. It takes managers in other locations to recognize and reward your hard-work, where mangers in FMC India have no clue about it. Very much equal pay - Never mind putting extra efforts, you are as normal to management as other is. This annoys all the hardworking people to look for opportunities... beyond company, thus leaving the company. Career uncertainty - FMC Global is much better in this aspect, but in FMC India its all darkness.

    Advice to Management

Lay down a strong employee retention policy. Remember company is full of young people with lot of excitement, show the recognition they feel they deserve and provide opportunities based on skill rather than favoritism.

I worked at FMC Technologies for more than a year

    Pros

Good chance for international exposure..regularly sends engineer for international training. Core technical job..good for mechanical engineers

    Cons

Unqualified management which leads to focus of internal politics. No regards for technical knowledge and career growth prospects

    Advice to Management

Hire some quality and well educated managers based on the quality of experience rather than quantity of experience

I have been working at FMC Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. sometimes good opportunities 2. friendly work place 3. good platform to switch to a better job 4. if you work then your value is appreciated globally (but here no one cares)

    Cons

    1. you have to prove yourself over and over again. 2. upper management is horrible and changes every year. in my opinion managers and team leads don't have the required knowledge and technical skills for their positions. 3. some engineers get good opportunities again and again while other hardworking engineers never get any. Hence, the company motivates the later engineers to look for better opportunities outside... this company either by switching or by going for higher education.

    Pros

Flexible work timings young workplace, interact with multiple regions, may involve travel abroad for short durations and subsidised canteen facilities for employees

    Cons

Satellite engineering centre that doesn't receive competent engineering work and employees are made to sign bonds after joining if given any travel opportunities abroad.

Please have a vision on how to develop and nurture engineers rather than pursue billable hours

    Pros

Friendly colleagues who go out of way to help; Good team work technically; Growth is good in certain groups even when projects are from different locations.

    Cons

Biased management; No independent projects, meaning work is dependent on other FMC regions like Singapore, Dunfermline or Houston; Growth is not measured only with individual's performance and his/ her contribution to team, but on personal opinions or impressions; Unprofessional behaviour towards employees from Management; To summarise all, it is a "One man show" wherein the director should be consulted for even... selecting stationery.
