I worked at FactSet full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good place to start a career as they make you feel like you're part of a team... very collegiate feeling. There are some very smart people that work at the company, but a number of them are on their way out fed-up with indecision in some areas of the company.

    Cons

Technology choices are old (VMS for example) and while they're trying hard to update, it's taking FOREVER. They will also make you fight for a top salary... you can get one, but they're not going to give it to you.

    Advice to Management

Indecision can be worse than the wrong decision.

I have been working at FactSet full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Work life balance. Friendly people. Ample physical cube/office space.

    Cons

Compensation could be more competitive, and tilted more to reward performance.

    Advice to Management

Need to create an environment that appeals to ambitious and aspiring technologist -- be it more drastic higher pay for high performance , more freedom in adventuring new technology, or other means. As a tech company, it got to strive hard to avoid becoming appealing to the mediocre B-performers but boring the A-performers.

I have been working at FactSet full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

FactSet compensates very well, especially those who exceed expectations. Many of the other benefits are also very nice. - Employees start with 3 weeks' paid vacation. - Monday-Thursday you get a subsidy for the cafeteria that is enough to cover lunch. - Parents of newborns enjoy paid maternity/paternity leave. The projects are interesting and challenging. FactSet is very goal-oriented, so others are motivated...

    Cons

FactSet has made some business decisions over the years that have put it in the position of needing to hire more engineers than it can. - What FactSet was doing 20 years ago was state-of-the-art. The environment that we operate in today is archaic. Engineers have to put a lot of effort in to simply maintain what we have. They also will not typically get experience in what is the industry standard. - We can't simply...

    Advice to Management

Allow engineering to fix old bugs or make minor behavior changes to upgrade the infrastructure, even if clients push back. In the long run it will make the software easier and cheaper to maintain. The long-term benefits will far outweigh the short-term loss of some revenues. Public recognition and compensation for those with on-call responsibilities. Bring back some of the things that made FactSet an even better...

FactSet has provided me with opportunities to meet new people, learn new technologies and provided space to develop ideas into fully fledged products. The team ethic at FactSet is second to none and selfless way in which team members help others achieve goals for the benefit of all leads to great rewards. Cons

If you don't like travel, then sometimes the intercontinental trips can become tiresome, but that is something that is easily overcome. If you don't like open offices that foster communication between teams and team members, then you can always put on some headphones and listen to some tunes.

    Advice to Management

Not much, only to continue the great levels of transparency so that the teams that deliver the vision can continue to feel like stakeholders in the process.
