I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time

    Pros

Large global company with a bug focus on rewarding people for hard work. Has a strong party culture but that doesn't mean you have to drink to have a good time here.

    Cons

It can be easy to get lost in such a big place, but you can avoid it if you try. You will get plenty of chances to socialise with very senior people in the business. The only other real downside that comes with such a large company is the politics.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Travel perks (FAM)
    -Benefits
    -Career opportunities and growth

    Cons

-When you first start, there is a lot to know and mistakes are costly ( literally)
-Working long hours with a low salary
-Sitting at a desk all day
    -Inconsistency of expectations
    -Micromanaging
-Marking up clients constantly because commission from suppliers are way too low. Unless you're selling business class every day to everyone, than goodluck with not marking up. And if you get caught, you have to come up with excuses for the 'extra amounts'
-Damage control- if something goes wrong there goes half of your day trying to resolve it and being put 'on hold'.

    Advice to Management

Better training and more efficient systems
    Better pay.

I worked at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Travel, culture, reasonably autonomous and trusted, strong consistent growth is encouraging. Broadly speaking the mission of the company is positive.

    Cons

Opportunity for mentorship at middle management in the US operations seemed non-existent. Confused leisure operations, lacking commitment to digital/online. Growth beyond middle-management seemingly impossible.

    Advice to Management

Flat structure is starting to shift, but slowly, and this will improve the outlook of new leaders looking to grow. I've always felt there is a gap in the nurturing of new and even experienced leaders to forge a path for them in FCTG. My experience with the senior leaders of the US operations is that there was a tendency to bring in experienced leaders, but they were often not culturally what I would call a good fit... often times these senior leaders gained a reputation for being unduly harsh, even ruthless, and aren't actually strong mentors who build teams through trust and empowering the right people to make decisions.
