I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group part-time

    Pros

Working in head office is great - there's heaps of opportunities to change fields, gain experience, take secondments, etc.

    Cons

You're typically expected to start in retail to get into support, and that can be pretty soul-crushing.

I worked at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great training! fun environment if you are young and have no young family of your own

    Cons

No work life balance, very long hours and unrealistic sales goals. You are only as good as your last month.

I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I love the opportunity to work part time, I also get to work from home and flexible hours when required. I am really loving the Parentwise initiative - the stay in touch catch ups when I was on mat leave and the return to work caoching sessions are amazing.

    Cons

I honestly don't have any worth mentioning

I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - We have a great culture (family, village, tribe model)
    - We have leaders, not managers
    - The only constant is change - this could be a con but in my opinion it's a pro - we never sit still... we're always striving for something bigger and better
    - Everyone has so much passion - we are the brand... we are travellers for travellers and we want to open up the world for those who want to see
    - Reward and recognition - Monthly or Quarterly awards depending on your department and of course GLOBAL GATHERING!!!
    - Opportunity to travel domestically and internationally for work

    Development:
    - Huge opportunity for career growth - leaders support 'brightness of future' and genuinely do everything possible to support and challenge you in your quest (I've had 3 promotions in 5 years)
    - The business has a FANTASTIC Learning & Development team

    Supportive workplace:
    - Flight Centre Foundation (Charity)
    - Brighter Futures (committed to sustainability - inc. environmental)
    - Recruitment (Career advice and support)
    - Learning & Development (expert trainers / leadership etc.)
    - Healthwise (Health & Wellness... an amazing gym onsite (or discounted membership at selected chains), class timetable, Massage/Beauty, Physio and Nutrition (AWESOME!!!)
    - Moneywise (Tax, Home Loans, Financial Planning)
    - We also have access to an external company who provide counselling and related services
    - Flight Centre genuinely cares about the people. In addition to the above (formal teams/businesses) we also have Parentwise and Womenwise
    - Great work/life balance

    Cons

    - Like any company/team… we don’t always get it right
    - We need to improve our tech - both systems and innovation

I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time

    Pros

Really great company, most of your colleagues are awesome people to work with and the work is very varied. You learn a lot!

    Cons

You work very hard for your money. As a lot of your pay is commission based you sometimes feel like there is pressure to “rip off” your customers which feels wrong and if you’re not up to doing that you won’t achieve in your business. They try to justify marking up your sales as “valuing your business”

  8. "Good people, crazy culture."

I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great work culture and team focus
    - Great processes in place in some teams, particularly marketing
    - Good opportunities available if you have the right connections within the team
    - Global company, great to have as experience on your CV

    Cons

    - There is a huge focus on moving staff with consultant backgrounds/connections through the business - putting them in roles in which they have no experience.
    - Big focus on workplace events, if you don't attend or miss out - you're not in the 'in' group.
    - Management don't really care too much about growth and development - there are no formalized growth plans for staff
    - Salaries are quite low in comparison to similar roles in market

    Advice to Management

    - More appreciation of support staff with specialized backgrounds - there is a huge focus on moving staff with consultant backgrounds/connections through the business - putting them in roles in which they have no experience.
    - Putting in place a formalized employee review system for support which incorporates goal-setting and yearly salary reviews based on performance
    - Introducing more competitive salary for specialist roles
