I worked at Ford Motor Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Decent base pay if not on launch -Good benefits

    Cons

-Terrible work/life balance when on launch. Consistently work 12+ hour days including weekends. Position is said to have 6-9 months on launch with a break in between launches, but most likely put on back-to-back launches (lasting up to 18 months onsite at assembly plant away from family) with little to no downtime in between programs. -Base pay is decent if not on launch. However, on launch, employees are required to...

    Pros

    Good pay and benefits.

    Cons

Traditional nonsense. They want you in the office in your cube so they know where you are. If you're not a millennial and support the existing manufacturing plants, then you're part of the "old Ford" and just a necessity. It remains to be seen if the clunky management style can attract and retain their vision of three "new Ford."

    Advice to Management

Pay afternoon to your mission statement: One Ford!

I worked at Ford Motor Company full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good opportunity to learn and expand your skillset. Alot of good co-workers you can depend on to help and assist you when needed. Never a boring day!

    Cons

-Management is horrible. Too much of a good ole' boys club. Many don't deserve their positions. -Advancement opportunities in manufacturing if you come from a diverse ethnic background is nearly impossible. It's highly racist, ethnic people don't get promoted no matter how bright you are, even if you have multiple masters degrees. HR won't listen, they are on the side of management. Alot of smart people that...

    Advice to Management

Get your act straight. Concerning manufacturing, stop being so racist and give ALL people a chance to rise up in the ranks. Stop with the games.

I have been working at Ford Motor Company full-time

    Pros

Great work life balance when not involved in a program launch. The business is very cyclic so you can forecast out the busier times. Competitive salary to similar companies. There is a good amount of work flexibility to take care of personal matters when they arise. For the most part the work environment is positive and team oriented.

    Cons

At some point you will need to travel, depending on the program location determines the length of time and frequency gone. Due to the company size your ability for career advancement is very much pre-determined unless you have connections. Also, a lot of the core systems used are clunky and outdated.

I worked at Ford Motor Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

None. For me family legacy was the only positive. That and I was able to work in Cleveland. For most people, that's a con though.

    Cons

The worst management culture you can possibly imagine. Managers are abusive verbally and emotionally, and completely incompetent. In fact, it's a necessary requisite for becoming a manager. You will not be paid for any overtime even if agreed to upfront, you will be micro-managed to death, and all the while you'll work with the most inferior equipment and technology you've ever heard of. You better get used to using msdos...

I worked at Ford Motor Company for less than a year

    Pros

    - Competitive pay and housing stipend. - Many of the people I worked with were very down to earth. Many of the union workers, in particular, were pleasant and often quite funny. - Despite my harsh criticism below, I really feel that many of the people were doing the best they could with the limited resources they were given and the demands they were facing.

    Cons

    - Ford is a company that wants smart people to solve tough problems. Fair enough, but most of the problems I saw stemmed from poor communication, poor planning, being understaffed, working with obsolete and/or neglected equipment and systems, ignoring problems for years until they could no longer be ignored, an overworked workforce, and a culture of sweeping problems under the rug or shipping them downstream so they became...
