I have been working at Freddie Mac full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Amazing first job. Tons of exposure into the multifamily space with some of the best learning experience for anyone straight out of college.

    Cons

If you aren't entrepreneurial and able to handle a heavy workload you won't succeed.

    Pros

Great benefits; great work/life balance; great management

    Cons

    "No future at Freddie Mac"

    StarStarStarStarStar
      Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

      I worked at Freddie Mac

      Pros

Cafeteria is good. Covered parking. Could be easy work. Depends on manager whim.

      Cons

Dominated by TCS and Hexaware. Mostly H1B contractors. Contributes to awful environment. Bad morale. Stay far away.

      Advice to Management

You hire the most racist firms to do your development yet claim diversity. Take a close look at the diversity in TCS and Hexaware.

I have been working at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Covered Parking. In House cafeteria, getting expensive but there if you need it. Some groups able to work remote.

      Cons

Open office environment is just awful. No ability to concentrate. People shoved together with no quiet areas, none. People constantly interrupting you. Teams constantly being pushed around and split and reconstituted. Agile is a joke, teams are split by function and will never cross roles. PM ratio to worker ratio is about 5 to 1, that is 5 Project Managers per worker. Freddie established ratios. But they ARE...

      Advice to Management

Drain the IT swamp. Get rid of the H1B bodyshops that are crippling the software. Most expensive software development environment ever constructed in the US.

I have been working at Freddie Mac full-time for more than a year

        Pros

Relatively easy-going company Lots of room for lateral movement Mostly great, personable colleagues Above average pay and awesome benefits Decent work-life balance Leadership is mission driven Diverse demographics

        Cons

Unclear path for promotion IT is always restructuring/reorganizing with new leadership Weak bonuses for professional level employees Weak annual raises (basically cost of living adjustment) Bureaucracy Inconsistent organizational structures amongst each group/division

        Advice to Management

My hope is that the culture of Freddie Mac, the thing that drew me to the company and makes me look forward to work, does not change when Don retires. Always hire leaders (Directors and above) with strong emotional intelligence who are personable and have good character and you’ll have high performing teams. Experience comes second.

I have been working at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

Salary, benefits, great co workers. Flexible schedule

        Cons

Can be too many managers in one group. And they will cover for each other rather then help or protect their direct reports. Some managers have been with the company for way to long and refuse to learn the new technology or procedures. They will just ride your coattails instead of trying to adapt. Too many contractors as well. Number of contractors outnumber actual full time employees. Lack of accountability. HR makes...

        Advice to Management

Too many managers in a group creates a confusing atmosphere. Who’s really calling the shots and it’s hard to trust them when one manager tells you to do something but the other over rules them and changes everything. Might be time to clean house on some managers that have been there too long and the polices, technology and procedures have past them by. If they can’t do it how can we as direct reports really get our jobs...

I have been working at Freddie Mac full-time for more than a year

        Pros

I love working at this company. They really value their employees. I find the pay competitive, and there are great benefits such as an onsite doctor, gym, and a five star cafeteria. I find my work interesting, and I have ample opportunity for training and learning.

        Cons

As a working mom, I need a company to have a flexible, telework- friendly work environment. On paper, Freddie Mac has this, but the culture and technology does not support it. Most senior leadership do not have a polycon system in their offices to support conference calls, which would allow remote employees to better participate in meetings. What's worse is that most conference rooms do not have polycons or even telephones...

        Advice to Management

Keep up with the times and change your flex work/telework culture to be more appealing to working mothers...and working parents. Start a campaign to get senior management on board. Behavior and attitudes need to be changes.
