I have been working at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nice and smart coworkers. Great benefits, especially retirement.

    Cons

Flat org and too little turnover at the higher levels makes it tough to progress quickly.

    Advice to Management

Start a more formal grooming/mentorship program.

I worked at Freddie Mac full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good cafeteria. Upper management encourages telework though leaves it up to managers.

    Cons

    1) Contractors are treated like second-class citizens at Freddie Mac in some key ways. For example, you can’t park in the garages of the buildings you work in, but rather have to park far away in a contractors garage. Before that garage was built, you had to park in a rented lot and take a shuttle. In contrast, regular employees got to park in the garages below the buildings they work in. As a contractor you already...

    Advice to Management

Give your contractors more perks, starting with allowing contractors to park in the garages below their buildings. Abandon the open-office conversion project, as studies show open office spaces increase stress, lower workplace productivity, and increase worker sick days by 50%. Increase ethnic, national, cultural, and age diversity in your IT workforce. Start a program to hire older out-of-work American citizens -- and...

I have been working at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible managers and an environment that encourages you to change positions if you are not passionate about your current position.

    Cons

Work flexibility is very dependent on the whims of your VP and not necessarily based on the job needs. Also many complain about the cost of the health care plans.

    Advice to Management

More consistency between groups in terms of flexible work arrangements.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

If/when u can get a manager who is your advocate and agree upon the skills u need 2 get promoted and manager will get you the opportunity-good job. I worked at FM for 6 years and only had 3 managers who were my advocates, out +-10 managers.

    Cons

50% of managers only care about their needs, not what you want (raise, type of work). I got a CEO award, 3 evaluations-exceptional and then stuck with a manager who only cared about what he wanted. Company not responsive to external market rates for skills - I was in a group of 10 people who got trained on a new IT method, external market increased salaries for this skill by $20k, and FM would not match salaries...
