I have been working at GE Global Research full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

GE culture of meritocracy, transparency and focus is back. One can see clear shift the way whole organization is moving in right direction. GRC has great technical problem to solve, very collaborative teams and supportive leadership.

    Cons

Workload can be high and if you really don't enjoy great technical challenges, you won't enjoy here.

    Pros

Excellent work culture, great technology, nice work life balance. Trains you in leadership like no other place

    Cons

Can get quite bureaucratic. Soft skills and perception management as opposed to accomplishments play a big part in career growth.

    Pros

Great Minds ... In many areas, perhaps the best available talent in the world Legacy of 100+ years Multi-nodal facility makes it exciting for Technologists to work across different business verticals Powering ... Moving ... Curing the world

    Cons

Extremely poor, indifferent and arrogant leadership ... Not a reflection of the people at the helm in Corporate / US or even India but the leaders at the local site level.

I worked at GE Global Research full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - Fantastic peer Group. Colleagues with deep knowledge, experience, helpful and friendly. Great team. Very little tension within the team. Most of my peers were humble. This I miss outside. Peers had great sense of humor. It felt so nice to go to work every day. I feel my colleagues were best in class! - Two of the best managers I met in my career were from this great outfit. I interpret it as - system worked well in selecting right person for right post. I honestly feel I was a bit lucky. This is because this was not a typical story heard across GRC. Managers were able to attract and retain great talent. They were successful in building a great team. Kudos to both of my managers. - Work content wise - got to see challenging problems from diverse business domains of GE. Intellectually satisfying. Felt motivated to look for innovative solutions. Had great collaboration with peers.

    Cons

    - Salary and other benefits were not best in class. - Lot of bureaucracy at times made projects very slow to take off. - Low hit rate, in the sense that unsatifyingly low percent of what we did went into production. - Recent changes at leadership level led to lot of confusion, indecision, lack of direction. - Yearly funding model -> enormous effort spent every year on securing funds, presentation, building reports, documents, ppts.

I have been working at GE Global Research full-time

    Pros

GE GRC as global research centers are known internally are great career choice for freshers and greenhorns. You get to explore many different types of problems in the industrial setting without having to worry a lot about a certain project not being very useful to the business. The work life balance is pretty nice for Juniors and the company is quite inclusive and diverse.

    Cons

Being a corporate R & D and cost center means that the research that is done here does not have to be of any use to any of GE businesses. Thus success metrics are often manipulated by execs to look good in front of their bosses. The GE businesses that fund the research often don't care about the outcome and treat the funding as some sort of internal CSR. Thus there is not much push for quality research that is really cutting edge or at least useful. Research here is driven by PowerPoint slides and buzzwords. Often senior execs coin some buzzwords and lower level execs and managers fall over each other to do high school level projects that have some similarity with that keyword further driving down the quality of work. Finally, career growth is slow and comp below market.
