I have been working at Gannett full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I say this in total honesty - this is the job I've been looking for. Management is caring and understanding. They help you every step of the way when you need it. The training programs they have get you to where you want to be in your career. Gannett is a very open environment that's laid back and comfortable. I'd recommend working here if you have the chance.

    Cons

I only have two real picks, and they're not huge at all. The bathrooms are way too small for how many people work here. Also, the water machines are awful. Other than that, no complaints.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. You're all great coaches and you keep doing great every day.

I worked at Gannett full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Being a part of a huge, national brand is special. No question. The company (of coworkers) is usually good, the work is usually rewarding, and the pay can be competitive.

    Cons

Layoffs affect everyone, especially when regular and severe. The company's financial performance is also lagging. It becomes a drain on morale.

    Advice to Management

Rethink the entire business model. Tear it down and rebuild.

    Pros

Challenging, fast-paced work environment which requires quick thinking and demands high-quality design and editing skills.

    Cons

Not a smooth pace -- deadlines of multiple print products overlap and create a deadline "crunch time" that causes a sometimes stressful work environment.

    Pros

You are truly paid for your work!

    Cons

Lots of changes being made nationally in a short amount of time.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees for their loyalty. Newcomers make nearly the same in base pay as someone that has been with company awhile.
