    No pros working in gap

    Cons

    Everything. Managers were bullies - I took two sick days over the course of 4 months (and I was working 30 hours a week) and they screamed at me over the phone while I was ill and the next day when I was back. I was forced to do shifts. They'd put the rotas out only a day before the week began so there was no chance to complain. I wasn't allowed my religious holiday off. I was blamed for a customer... spilling a drink on a hoodie.

    Cons

    Gap was my first customer service/retail position. Initially, I was thrilled to have got the job having been turned away by similar companies due to a lack of experience. My slightly clumsy nature/difficulty to handle stressful situations at that particular time was met with support and kindness by fellow colleagues and supervisors. Min was also lovely to work with. However, other members of management were often... sharp with me and did not offer me encouragement, and I was often belittled by them which inhibited my progress further. I was once told to "shut up," as the male manager on shift was fed up with colleagues talking to one another, despite the fact that we were working and no customers were present. Another manager would ignore me when I came into the staff room during her lunch break, and consequently I never felt at ease working there. Despite constant attempts to be friendly to management and always working hard, I felt undervalued and disliked. I was always the last person to be offered overtime, and once I had left the store to attend university, I visited some months later, just for an ex-manager to say "Can you stop interrupting my staff" in a cold, haughty manner. I was just 19 at the time, and it shocks me to reflect on how people who were significantly older than me and more experienced were more willing to be cold and uninviting towards me, rather than supporting my growth within the company.
