      GA is a great employer!

      Pros

Great people, competitive salaries. Many program managers, supervisors, and directors have a technical background and are very smart.

      Cons

Managers are often hands off. The just give you a task and let you run with it. I like this, but some people want to be told exactly what to do all the time.

      Do your research

      Pros

General Atomics has amazing products. Some Benefits

      Cons

Leverage your network and learn all you can about HR from the inside. TA is largely an 'order taker' posture versus strategic partner, this shift occurred approx 2.5 years ago as HR services began to dictate offers and processes. Many large titles in the company with no authority in the business. Human Resources has some of the highest turn-over in the company. Employee Resource Groups were pulled from external websites and removed from public view. Pension appears to be eroding; before March 2021 7% non-contributory current is less than 1%. Merits and bonuses are reducing; recommend negotiating the highest salary possible when you receive an offer. Annual merit is 2-3% on average. ICP is "discretionary". Engineering groups, Energy, ASI, and EMS have been phenomenal; GA still has some of the most intelligent people in the industry building cutting-edge technology. However, the business executives need a serious review and change.

      Chill place to work

      Pros

Great place to work for those who like to contribute their own individual work to a team of people working towards the same goal. People here are great.

      Cons

The pace of work changes with contracts and customers. You might come in one day and have something due by the end of the week. Then transition back to waht you were working on before.

Solid employer / Cool products / Awesome location

      Pros

Extremely flexible on all things but WFH. Great pay and benefits. Hands on with product.

      Cons

Depending on group, management/structure is mostly a deadend in terms of upward mobility. Leadership continues poor engineering practices due to legacy designs/methods, and are unwilling to evolve and elevate engineering practices. Which makes it difficult to compete with the larger Aerospace companies. Lack of training budget. Virtually no training every year. No new products (on the airframe/mechanical engineering side); all software and pod upgrades, but no new program of record in the future.

Nice people across the company, HR is not a well-run department.

      Pros

Nice people, 9x80 schedule, they generally care about employees, usually good work- life balance. Moderate pay to start, but very small increases there after.

      Cons

HR leadership is completely ineffective, unavailable, don't allow their highly capable teams to make any decisions, and they hold on to actions and requests for many many weeks. They don't communicate (HR employees are seemingly always the last to know what's going on). We are on the mid to low end of pay, no career development. Reports to legal, who have minimal employment law background and won't engage with HR but many actions have to go through them.
