I have been working at Genomic Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great cancer products -breast, colon and prostate cancer assay

    Cons

Politics everywhere; flat organization- promotions in some of the teams is based on how well you socialize with your manager and not how ell you do your job

    Advice to Management

The C suite is out of touch with the business.

I have been working at Genomic Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Oncotype assays are well researched and robust and help patients. Wonderful medical, clinical, development, stats and BD leads. Other GlassDoor comments about 'half-baked' are uninformed - these are well researched and robust; training is strong, but these are complicated and advanced products so it is challenging to learn. Company takes products seriously. Great to work on products that help cancer patients.

    Cons

Executives not aligned on strategy. Generally good debates; some employees can't handle seeing this, but it's not a bad thing to see the challenges the executives face on strategic matters. Time for new leaders. Too much 'tribalism'. Not enough innovation outside business/product development and lab. Too hard to get decisions made. Commercial leadership above VP level not international enough and not really connected....

    Advice to Management

Decide to be international... or not; this has been a weak approach. Commit to long-term strategy and fund it; too much short-term thinking and managing vs leading. Commit to building regulatory - sticking with CLIA is not the future. Listen to the BPD leaders: they know strategy.

I have been working at Genomic Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people Up to date technology Leaders are great at lying

    Cons

Low bonus payouts. Restructured to take away from those who work hard and are paid lower by changing the payout to 7%, from 10 and leaving payouts for executives and managers at a higher percentage... Lack of transparency across the organization and focus constantly shifts

    Advice to Management

Remember your roots and company core values. There’s a reason why the company was so successful in the beginning. Are you even demonstrating truth seeking? Also re-evaluate all HR. Why put so much effort in learning and development if all that is being implemented are yoga programs?

I would respectfully disagree with your comments. Bonus payouts actually increased for many with some people getting additional base pay instead of bonus. Your note above is misleading. Also, we offer numerous options for employees to learn and grow professionally. I would encourage ...

I have been working at Genomic Health full-time

    Pros

Nice company culture focused on serving patients

    Cons

Senior executive team is dysfunctional, cant agree on corporate strategy or much of anything. Important strategic decisions do not get made because executives cannot agree so important initiatives are delayed and or not delivered. Low chance of future success.

    Advice to Management

Make some changes in top management, focus on execution.

      Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at Genomic Health full-time

      Pros

Ethical product, stock seems to be doing well.

      Cons

Too many managers, not many workers. It is very important how you project yourself. There are meetings all the time and everyone has to look like an alfa-male. There are certainly cliques and it feels like middle school. HR is scary.

        Cons

Decisions are not made in a timely manner and things tend to drag on.

        Pros

Benefits good Salaries good Location good

        Cons

Unethical leadership -- it is dictatorship in Laboratory operations! You can feel poor morale and toxic environment when you are in the building. Unfair promos -- they do not appreciate the good work ethic but demoralize people in the management. You would like to know who is holding the horrible leaders accountable when they don't walk the talk -- just play politics and much favoritism -- the honest person gets rolled...

        Pros

Good people, with good intentions. Do a pretty good job of keeping the "bad apples" from getting into the organization.

        Cons

A little top heavy on control.

        Advice to Management

Don't be in such a rush to be just like every other big Pharma/Biotech.

I have been working at Genomic Health full-time for more than 3 years

        Pros

Great products and services and a legacy of market leadership in breast cancer. A sfrong engagement with cancer advocacy groups.

        Cons

ALL decisions, no matter how insignificant, are made by a small group of tenured, founding leaders, leading to favoritism of legacy, more tenured employees. Turnover is high amongst newer, outside Director/VP level corporate managers.

        Advice to Management

Board should consider an executive management 'shakeup' due to CEO and C-suite's negative influence on decision making. The CEO and most of her staff have tenure of more than 12 years, resulting in legacy driven decision making and resistance to change .
