Build the Career You Aspire to Have

25 Oct 2022 - Manager in Westlake, TX
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Over the past 6.5 years, Goosehead has allowed me the opportunity to build a career that I could have never dreamed of. After graduating from college, Goosehead took a chance on me. My leaders took the time to get to know me, what was important to me, and consistently help me achieve personal bests. Because of their investment, I have been able to work in two departments, take on additional responsibilities, and work my way into management within 3 years of my career. If company culture and growth are important to you, look no further. Goosehead is not just a fun place to work. It is somewhere you will be challenged, forced out of your comfort zone, and never satisfied with the status quo. It is a company that will push you to be the best you can be and allow you to grow both personally and professionally. All the growth is merit-based, meaning that you have control over your career path and will never be pigeonholed. This not only goes for your title but also your income. This is just the beginning. My career has taken a lot of unforeseen turns over the years, but if you stay the course the sky is the limit. It is exciting to consistently work towards the next level of your career, never becoming stagnant, and it is even more exciting doing it with a company that you believe in.

      Cons

Don’t get me wrong, it is not easy to get up the learning curve, but if you are self-disciplined, coachable, and have the motivation to make it happen, failure is not an option. If you put in the work early in your career, you will reap the rewards for years to come.

      Great for College Grads

14 Mar 2023 - Account Executive in Westlake, TX

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Can’t complain- easily making 6 figures this year and have already been on 3 long vacations this year and it’s only March. I’m only 2.5 years into my career and I’m able to WFH as much as I want, travel as much as I want, and make as much $$$ as I want. While it was hard work for a couple years now my job is extremely easy and I’ll continue making more money every year without having to work any harder.

      Cons

Early on it will be hard work. Some people take a very short amount of time to ramp up and for others it can take a few years. All depends on how hard you want to work early on. Difficult to live off of $40K base if you have a family, mortgage, etc. because of that we tend to hire more college grads than older adults. There are bonuses to help out early on but they’re earned. You won’t make the same amount of money every month as it’s based off sales, bonuses qualified, etc. Youll never make less than $3333 pre tax in one month so it’s important to make sure you plan for this.

      Incredible Opportunity

3 Mar 2023 - Sales Manager in Houston, TX

      Business Outlook

      Pros

This career path has allowed me to grow in so many different ways. I started out as an Account 5 years ago and have seen growth and mobility in my career year over year. It will take a lot of hard work in your first 2 years, but if you are focused, coachable, and disciplned you can get very far. I love the different career paths that we offer our AEs, you can become a manager, open up your own franchise, or be a top producer and have full autonomy over your schedule. The amount of money that can be made is unbelievable, and you get to work with amazing people every single day.

      Cons

The learning curve, there is a lot to the role at the beginning. From marketing to learning carriers and insurance terms. It can be overwhelming if you don't see results quick, and it might take a little longer to become commissionable. However, you have a ton of support from your management and team, and a great bonus structure to help out.

      Decent Pay, Horrible Communication

      23 Jan 2023 - Service Agent
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Earn extra vacation time, tons of specialty teams

      Cons

Almost impossible to leave phone team due to extreme need for agents, terrible inter-company communication, last 4 months it was almost like a dictatorship, the offices have gotten rid of their inter-office chats and Microsoft Teams messages for being “too distracting” and it’s not encouraged to chat with other agents or build relationships. They do not help manage case loads well and hardly answer trainee questions or even tenured agents and often let them sink. It’s a very reactive manager mindset versus proactive. The corporate leaders don’t really seem to care and you are truly just a warm body. They will lie and say growth is possible but hold you back from it month after month and give myriads of reasons why but never the truth and you will get 2 different stories as to why per leader you ask. HR does not care about employees and would rather appease management then actually address inter office issues and there is a lot of management dating “lower ranked” employees or married to them even whether same or different team. Chaos incarnate.

BEWARE: Payout is not as advertised. They take advantage of good people for too long

      Pros

young environment and they'll pay favorably for gas expenses

      Cons

They preach that you'll quickly ramp and be making the big bucks. I know of plenty of top performers who are barely making $65k a year.... That's absurdly low for a top performer of 3-4 years tenure. They leech off of young, fresh out of college kids who don't know any better. They make promises about upward mobility and raking in the cash but that just isnt the case. Also- their "world class service team" is not world class. I dealt with so many disgruntled customers (and ex customers) who were victim to big and small oversights from the service team. There are a few good people there but the strictly micromanaging, in office environment with bad comp and HIGH TURNOVER is not the culture for me

      Goosehead Experience

25 Feb 2023 - Account Executive in Westlake, TX

      Business Outlook

      Pros

▪️At times a great work environment. With positive team camaraderie. ▪️A laid back work environment, with a good work/life balance. This is only applicable for those with tenurship and new business sales success. Everyone else struggles, with no help and works 9-11 hour work days scrapping to stay off PIP. ▪️Multiple avenues to choose from within the company to move up.

      Cons

▪️At times a toxic work environment. ▪️A lot of fovoritism, can be hard to get the help you need. Especially when starting out. ▪️Management doesn’t follow through with coaching. Will instead use manipulation, mind games, and idled threats to encourage progress.

      Great Company

      Pros

Goosehead is a great place to work. you have plenty of opportunity and flexibility to achieve your goals. Just like most outside sales positions if you produce at a decent level and you are doing what you're supposed to be doing you can have an extremely flexible schedule. Compensation is great as well. I am an average producer with Goosehead and coming in to my 3rd year I should make 6 figures this year.

      Cons

Sometimes you end up competing against other Goosehead agents for a client which can make it confusing for the client and create a bad experience.

      Understand Your Purpose in Joining

      Pros

The people are great - if you find them in the right department. Food is provided every now and then. Travel benefits if you get in the correct department that has traveling expectations.

      Cons

Micromanagement. Not all managers do this but some do. Especially the one that I received. But that's with most jobs. I hear about it in other departments that they have fun but you just have to find the right managers to work with or that are WILLING to work with you. Gossip, drama and unnecessary banter to demoralize your well-being. Be prepared to hear all about it but block it out. Greek life. Majority of it can be very very clique-y and feel like you're competing with a fraternity/sorority. Everyone/department has their own groups that they stick with and it's going to be like that. Forever. No help/boost in motivation or company moral. It's a sad thing that they say they're going to help but really, you can expect that you're going to be judged immediately. Fake mentality. It's fake it until you make it. However, I despise waking up every day to think "I have to keep faking it to make a simple paycheck". I'd rather be at a company that truly cares about their employees. All-in-all, be ready to get through the 9-5 (8-5 for me, since my manager was very strict) and survive the long days of repetitive work that doesn't provide any boost of happiness.

      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

I only have experienced working under one manager and one team but I can honestly say it’s the best sales job I’ve had. They have the training and leadership to help you succeed. I have never been or felt more productive. They make it easy to see your hard work pay off with their new bonus and commission structure. I didn’t know anything about insurance before I applied, but they got me up to speed fast.

      Cons

You have to take the insurance agent license exam within a week of stating. They prepare you well though.
