ver since the moment I interviewed with HCS, I knew this was the company for me. Their corporate culture is second to none and the entire executive team makes employees feel appreciated, supported, and proud of their work. No two days are the same and that’s what I love about going to work everyday-there is always something new and exiting to contribute to or be a part of. Working from home full-time, I don’t always have face-to-face interaction with co-workers on a daily basis. But, they days I do spend in the corporate office, everyone makes you feel like you’ve never left. It’s not your typical 9-5 job either. HCS always has something exciting going on. Whether it’s monthly lunches, happy hours, tickets to your favorite sporting event- they make it fun to come to work everyday.

The inside scoop about this place is that they love hiring college grads because they're obviously cheaper and they can't find any talent that knows RPG so they have no choice but to train them. If they actually do hire someone who knows RPG, that person is no longer with the company a couple months later...I wonder why. If you're a college grad in Computer Science and want to code - skip this job. Sure, 50K sounds enticing but it's a career dead-end. The truth is that aside from a small tiny niche in the marketplace, RPG isn't a sought after skill so you'll definitely have trouble finding your next job. It's 2016, not 1996, times have changed but HCS hasn't. Also, you're not just a programmer. You're not working on anything exciting because you're an account manager that will fix RPG bugs when clients call. The VPs are so miserable and when you ask them a question, it's like you just ruined their day and are annoyed if you have a simple question. Anyone beneath them isn't worth their time. They come running to you as if it's worldwide crisis and demand that you fix a problem. Sometimes your fix works and other times, you'll discover it's a problem on their end in the web service that THEY wrote. They'll never apologize to you and accept accountability. They are so high and mighty... The CTO is an absolute joke. What technology does he know about? RPG? CL? He barely knows a lick of JavaScript but pretends like he knows. The annual performance reviews are a joke too along with the raises. Enlighten me on how an employee would score a 5 for friendliness? There's never any praise, just scare tactics. It's quite cute. The CTO, along with VPs don't have any real world outside experience so they are accustomed to doing things "the HCS way". Here's an example - they finally just started using the JIRA bug-tracking ticketing system in mid-2014. 2014?! And this is supposed to be a "tech hub" ? Prior to that, everything was tracked via Word documents and Excel spreadsheets emailed back and forth to each other. Real efficient. Maybe the CTO should start looking into the future and focus on adapting to the changing times. Instead, he'd rather take 8 hours to make the colors of JIRA match the HCS company colors. Cool...
Pros
You're not just a number - you know everyone, and everyone knows you ... in a good way! Executives' doors are always open. Employee lunches, casual dress, theme days, bake-offs, happy hours, bowling, sports games, etc. Holiday party and summer picnic with families welcome. Professional development opportunities and paid for by the company.
Cons
Some old school policies, but management has made a lot of improvement over time - always hiring new grads so culture has started to acclimate appropriately.
