Cons
Compensation is often way below market. Management makes questionable decisions. I worked in the hedge fund industry for a long time and this is the highest turnover I have ever seen. They are consistently firing people and hiring less adequate people.

Free lunch, very high bonuses comparatively, smart people, great office, promotes often, exposure to a lot of different sectors/investment types/people, ability to transfer to different departments
Cons
Firm growth stalled a little for the last few years. Past PR issues hurt the firm's reputation but that has been healing.

I have been working at Highland Capital full-time for less than a year
Pros
The company is a great fit for people who are willing to put in the work while achieving results. There are some extremely smart people working throughout all levels of the company. I mention this because it's a fairly flat organization in terms of communication and cooperation. This includes exposure to upper levels of management.
Cons
I wouldn't necessarily call this a negative, but it should be pointed out that exposure to senior-level management also implies a high level of accountability.
