I worked at Hot Topic part-time

I worked at Hot Topic part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    • Very Casual Dress Code • Discount

    Cons

    • 3 - 6 hrs a week for part time employees • Disorganized and unprofessional work environment • Low pay for management — $15/hr Assistant Manager (ASM) • Bad communication within management - An ASM was excluded from a manager group chat — unrightfully not treated like a manager, made fun of/picked on and lack of communication - the pay is unfair and unfit for the job position - Low Communication is through Facebook group only • Management criticizes team/ yells at employees causing shame and embarrassment unprofessionally and rudely in front of customers • Training can be minimal, unpredictable, finicky, unclear • Expectations of staff and responsibilities do NOT reflect training, very low hours and pay • Mind numbing work; standing around a lot with absolutely nothing to do during low traffic hours, very loud repetitive music, anxiety inducing environment • NO TALKING ALLOWED • Small and dirty back room • Common 3-4 hour shifts; short or NO breaks. • Store management and upper management require revision of conduct in the workplace and treatment of staff— lack of respect, communication and integrity. • Several employees feel and have been pressured to purchase unnecessary and unwanted items by store manager

I have been working at Hot Topic full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Cheap and great medical benefits that still cover domestic partnerships. Awesome atmosphere. Customers, I’ve read a lot of stories about others experiences, I was with the company for 8 years, I definitely had my fair share of “out there” experiences, but generally speaking, they’re great. Great discount.

    Cons

Embarrassingly low pay for the amount of expectation put on staff. Very out of touch upper management.

I worked at Hot Topic part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Discount, awesome coworkers, laid back customers, good music

    Cons

Upper management is to interested in employees personal lives outside of work, completely unprofessional, awful training, awful hours, unrealistic sales goals, cares more about ADT and loyalty then customers experience, they don't care about their employees, I was told I would never move up in that store because of who I knew in personal life outside of work while also being told I had all the makings of a store manager.
