    Cons

Upper management has high expectations. No training time. Jump right in

    Advice to Management

Create a training process that outlines everything someone will need to know. Don't over step boundary

I worked at Hy-Vee full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

-Very flexible scheduling in terms of asking for days off and use of by the hour PTO and vacation weeks -Legitimately friendly coworkers that you make bonds with for life -Always room for and a willingness from managers to place you for advancement -Good benefits - even for part timers -Good company values -Great first job for high schoolers and college students, great job for the retired crowd

    Cons

-Little to no work/life balance for full time employees - you will never have a consistent enough schedule to have a life -Lack of communication between upper and lower management -In office politics with clique mentality -Upper management's inability to deal with any complaints regarding management on up

    Advice to Management

To upper management: Open up more channels of communication with not only those below you but among yourselves. There's nothing more frustrating than getting store policy and rules that need to be enforced handed down to you to only turn around the next day and getting ripped a new one because the other half of you disagreed and aren't on the same page.

I have been working at Hy-Vee part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Co Workers, management, flexible schedule,

    Cons

The biggest downside for me was the pay. It didn't seem like they were willing to give raises very often or even when you progressed.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Hy-Vee full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexible schedule, many opportunities for transfer

    Cons

I worked for the company for 13 years, starting in high school. The culture under Randy (CEO) has really taken a nose dive. Hy-Vee used to be a fun, happy, place to work with competitive pay and great benefits. Corporate greed has set in and its all about hitting numbers regardless of ethics. I witness two store directors coming in to "clean house" firing employees with decades of service to "make the store... profitable." Area supervisors micromanage to the nth degree, putting pressure on store directors and managers which then trickles down to even the lowest level employee. When you give up your holidays, nights, weekends (every major holiday has an inventory fall near it) there should be a reasonable expectation of a positive work environment with competitive wages.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees. Driving long term, knowledgeable and competent employees away and hiring in cheaper labor is not working. Walk through any store on a Saturday. There are long lines, improperly trained (or not trained) cashiers, clueless help and endless aisles with no assistance.

I have been working at Hy-Vee part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible scheduling. Ability to bounce between departments. Low pressure.

    Cons

Each dept. has its own issues that never seem to be fixed on a managerial/corporate level. Outdated record-keeping/pricing techniques.
