I worked at Industrial Light & Magic for less than a year

    Pros

A bit more established - high security - unstoppable great projects

    Cons

Take advantage of prestige name and do not offer competitive pay - insane overtime like any other VFX house - zero transparency

    Advice to Management

Figure out if the London office should be a family child or pet.

I worked at Industrial Light & Magic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great projects, great work environment that makes artists and innovation top priorities. Deep bench of talent.

    Cons

A large company, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. To distinguish yourself you have to make an effort, for sure.

    Advice to Management

The split between management and production can lead to misunderstandings in employee reviews.

I have been working at Industrial Light & Magic

    Pros

Excellent projects, some superstar supervisors, great technical support. Beautiful building.

    Cons

Unreliable employment. Health benefit costs. Atmosphere lost much of it's warmth after moving to the Presidio.

    Advice to Management

Foreign born management sending jobs out of the US?

I have been working at Industrial Light & Magic

    Pros

The people are great to work with. The projects that you are given the chance to be on are nothing short of fantastic. The name recognition of ILM on your resume is a huge boost to your career. They are good about rehiring people that have worked for them before. They offer full health benefits for their project hires.

    Cons

It is not very stable if you are looking for year-round employment. You should count on only being able to work 8 to 9 months of the year. The summer months are especially slow. There is very little opportunity to advance in the company or be given a staff position. The artists are being asked more and more to produce larger amounts of work in less time. There is no vacation or sick pay unless you are...

    Advice to Management

The company has lost and will in the future continue to lose some very talented artists if they don't find a way to create more stability for them. The best artists will go to companies that offer them year round employment.
