    Pros

Highest caliber of talent and professionalism. Lots of knowledge sharing. Coolest projects. Great location.

    Cons

I worked at Industrial Light & Magic full-time for more than a year

      Pros

I work at ILM 1year and a half. I loved it. I was in the creature department. I come more from a rigging background but I love Zeno, the soft for doing simulation. The first 3 months were really confusing, but the community around Zeno at ILM in all the different facilities is huge and made my life easier. You have a good perspective career if you stay and if you prove you are good and willing to not have a good pay.

      Cons

Average pay, they play with the fact a lot of people wants to come. Lot of overtime but it's common in the VFX

      Advice to Management

give a better raise to your artists if you value them. Try harder to keep them or people like me who love the company will leave again and again.

I worked at Industrial Light & Magic full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

      - Some of the projects are good - There is a gym - There are some cool people to work with - There is free food and drinks sometimes - You get to see crew screenings of movies for free

      Cons

      - You get harassed by junkies and homeless people right outside of the office - There is a LOT of overtime on every project and it's still getting worse - People from other studios are hired for lead or supervisor jobs instead of promoting people already there - There are a lot of double standards: 1. Friends of management can say and do things other people would get fired for 2. Women bad at their jobs will get...

      Advice to Management

      - Get rid of the people there because of favoritism and politics and get rid of the management and supervisors doing that - Promote more people already working there instead of strangers from other studios - Fix how much overtime everyone has to work on every project

I have been working at Industrial Light & Magic full-time

      Pros

Prestigious company, some nice little perks (swag, screenings), some great clever people

      Cons

Awful micromanaging management, Poor work environment, utter absence of respect for staff, constant failed promises that things will improve, huge conflicts of ego and nepotism.

      Advice to Management

Take a long, hard look at how your IT is managed, listen to the feedback from your staff, work harder to give staff a reason to stay (20 days holiday & a barebones benefits package, really?), follow through on plans and projects PROPERLY, rather than leaving everything held together with string, most importantly, remove the micromanagement.

I worked at Industrial Light & Magic full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Talented artists (for the most part).

      Cons

Insane hours, zero staff appreciation, poorly managed, a lot of egos, very corporate atmosphere.

      Advice to Management

7 day weeks and 12+ hour days should not be considered as normal regardless of client commitments and looming deliveries. Creative leads need to be managed correctly which in turn will reduce pressure on artists and production.

I worked at Industrial Light & Magic full-time for less than a year

        Pros

The company has some of the best people in the business, and despite what you know, there is always someone who you can learn from.

        Cons

End of project crunch times can be quiet demanding.

I worked at Industrial Light & Magic full-time

        Pros

Work with the some of the most talented folks in the industry, who also happen to be wonderful, fun, supportive human beings. Benefits are top-notch (Disney pass, private screenings). Clothes/hair/tattoos - can do whatever you want, very casual. Very fun annual company events, as well.

        Cons

Heavy OT can lead to very long days; work/life balance can be a struggle. Certain positions undervalued and underpaid. Advancement can also be slow.
