A Decent Place to Work
31 Jan 2023 - Visitor Services Assistant in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
If you enjoy interacting with people this is a great entry level job. The management is very fair and considerate, and the working conditions are fine. There are often chances for advancement in the department, or the ability to transfer to other departments and earn more money and create a career path.
Cons
The initial salary is not great, but if you can stick with it you can learn valuable skills and move up, either in this department, or transfer to another department

Good, but don't expect too much
22 Sep 2021 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Anyone with a strong customer service background and a willingness to learn can do the frontline positions. If you're coming from retail, food service, hospitality, or security then make the leap! Coworkers are cool and base pay is $15 an hour, you get free concert tickets, and vacation and holiday pay if you work more than 20 hours a week. Lots of opportunity to pick up extra hours if you're part time, and the opportunity to become FT if you want it.
Cons
Crowds exceed what the building and workflow were designed for almost every single day. Visitors are often wealthy and white and can be demeaning, racist, sexually harassing, etc. Areas can be dangerously hot in the summer/cold in the winter and employees have gotten heat stroke/hypothermia during their shifts. It's a small organization so room for growth is limited, plus management has a certain "type" of person they like to promote and anyone outside of that should look elsewhere.
- Former Employee, more than 5 years★★★★★
Pros
Wonderfully creative, brilliant, and caring colleagues. However the inefficiencies and toxicity of the management team cast a dark cloud over hard working and talented employees.
Cons
Management has free range to scream and be nasty to employees. It’s demeaning and totally unwarranted. Despite complaints to HR nothing changes. Terrible and anxiety causing toxic work environment.
