      Making All The Right Moves

Dec 20, 2021 - Product Development in Portland, OR

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Jama has been making many changes as it matures from a teenager into an adult company, and those changes have resulted in record quarter after quarter of profit, bonuses, and market share. The company recently paid out double bonuses for two quarters due to the impressive growth they've achieved. Leadership seems to have their heads on straight, and the company is driving full steam ahead toward $100M ARR. It's turning out to be a fun ride! Lots of opportunity for growth. As long as you have an open mind and are willing to put in the time and effort, you can definitely succeed at Jama. I love the fact that people who put in the hard work are celebrated and rewarded. I also appreciate how open people are and how they feel they can speak with candor when they have an opinion to share.

      Cons

Moving fast sometimes means making decisions on the fly. That can be unsettling for people who prefer to have more time to plan things out. Also, like most companies, Jama did experience a small bit of the Great Resignation, but the good part is that new folks with amazing ideas have come on board.

Best Place I Have Ever Worked!

Dec 20, 2021 - Technical Support Engineer in Portland, OR

      Business Outlook

      Pros

I’ve worked at a few companies and most pay lip service to things most of us care about, but don’t actually DO anything about it. Jama is unique in that it walks the talk. Since the day I started and had the best onboarding I have ever had, I have always felt fully supported. Everyone is so helpful to answer questions at any time. If I run into a new issue I can post on Slack and have numerous responses in minutes! The company is rapidly growing and making money and even surprised us all recently by DOUBLING bonuses when we did really well. I’ve never heard of that before. I am also very thankful to be part of a company that is making real progress on diversity with actual goals and measurements shared company-wide. This is the most inclusive and supportive culture that I have ever worked in. Covid has made working from home an ongoing reality, but Jama has done as good a job as possible with virtual bingo, holiday DJs, breakfasts and learns, fireside chats and a vibrant Slack culture. Jama is the best pace I have ever worked and I am doing my part to keep it that way.

      Cons

Jama is a culture built around learning and growth with personal accountability. If you are looking for an easy place to just get by, Jama is not for you.

      On a roll!

      Pros

Finally, we have great leadership. Architecture is making massive improvements and we are getting the support we need. Moving away from the small company people to competent folks who know their jobs. We just got a DOUBLE bonus and our first dividend!

      Cons

Still sorting out remote work. Lots of people all over the world now, but hard to stay connected.

Mixed Bag - Good First Job but Culture Needs Work

Dec 17, 2021 - Technical Support Engineer in Portland, OR

      Pros

Awesome coworkers on the individual contributor level. Very cool office in downtown PDX that's unfortunately mostly vacant. Great place to get your foot in the door if you're newer or getting back into tech. Pretty laid back work environment.

      Cons

Upper Leadership is very removed and hard to connect with. Non-competitive salary and benefits. Not doing much about employee retention and experiencing very high turnover. Product has immense tech debt. Disappointed to see a lot of talk about DEI but very little actual work in that area. Has a very confusing way of suddenly firing key members of the team without discussing it with the team to see what the impacts would be.

If you can advocate for yourself - this is a great place

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Pros: -Customer base -Benefits are decent (not the greatest compared to other tech companies but OK) -They are starting to ramp up continuing education programs, and DEI awareness programs -They are trying to get diverse in their practices -Informal communication and virtual first culture is great -Great with work/life balance -If you know how to communicate your wants/needs and have the right folks to speak with ... you can go far All teams / managers are different and there's some teams that really cultivate growth, success, diversity, and different perspectives

      Cons

-Lack of management training (please make sure if you're promoting someone to a manager, it's not because they were good at their last position being a non-manager but they are also good at coaching, adapting, and cultivating the skill sets on their team -Perhaps better benefits and stock incentives -Involve critical employees in product changes vs just allowing it to be part of an executive huddle, perspectives from employees who face customers everyday would be more realistic -Don't have a favoritism mentality within teams

Growing market-leading company; competent, results-focused leadership

      Sep 23, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

-Company setting record results under new, experienced, growth-mindset CEO and leadership team; we consistently earn our bonuses now -Data-driven and results focused; your impact and contributions are what matter; prior leadership valued beers, buddies, and high-fives; people are finally recognized for their performance and not how long you’ve been friends with the CEO (of course, for some, this shift is uncomfortable) -Employees are empowered to contribute ideas and drive real change through an established process of developing and testing hypotheses -DEI efforts are no longer solely performative in nature; employees were empowered to define a mission, set goals, and implement programs to bring them to life; the feeling of inclusivity is real – Goodbye Bro culture! -Market competitive pay; excellent benefits; flexible work framework since leadership cares more about results than time in your seat; seamlessly shifted to virtual first

      Cons

-Change can be hard; some of the folks that have been here for a long time are clinging to the old ways of lack of accountability or results and can introduce negativity. -While shift to virtual first was essentially seamless, company could’ve offered a more generous “get started” home office reimbursement -Too many disparate internal systems and little in the way of change management which can lead to a lot of cross-functional frustration; growing pains

      Pros

-Really focused on building up the company value/growth -Awesome benefits -Remote first and flexible -Remote onboarding process was very well thought out and organized -Opportunity to work with really cool companies

      Cons

-Still haven't gotten the hang of a remote culture. Managers are a little hands off and don't initiate conversation via slack to enhance team building.

Dynamic product, great people, optimistic outlook.

      Aug 3, 2021 - Senior Product Designer

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - As an Individual contributor, amazing growth opportunities in the product org if you want to expand your skill set. - Management team is really first class and most of them were strong practitioners before becoming managers. - Now a remote-first company - The customers (users) are building amazing products, really fun to help them on their journey.

      Cons

      - A shift to a more a strict budget for employees. Small things like limited stipend for remote set ups, computer upgrades, buying new software, etc. There has been a shift over the past year and it has hurt morale. - Friction from leadership changes. The mission and culture of the org has been diluted, very much a financial milestone driven org at the moment. - Salary and compensation is trending down compared to the greater market. - The product has some legit tech debt, will be painful to fully pay down that debt.
