Pros

This satisfies my five-word minimum.

Cons

The illusion is that fear based plantation life has run its course. It's over. It has ended. The unfortunate reality is that it has just morphed. It has changed its appearance and its address. It has moved from the cotton plantation to the corporate plantation. The old southern plantations have moved into reinforced steel, concrete, glass and marble structures. And a perfect example is Janover! The regularity of employee "departures" (even pre-COVID) is truly head spinning. Janover pays lip service to "valuing" their human assets, but that is pure HR gaslighting. If you make a mistake, you will likely get a warning that you just might be included in the next round of "desaparecidos." Nice job you got there! It would be a shame if something happened to it! When HR is observed in the NYC office, everyone gossips about which head or heads will roll "this time." However, if you are a partner's son (wink wink nod nod) or a "friend of the firm" there are no worries! Beware of fake/b-nose "positive" reviews posted last Spring 2020 for the purpose of inflating Janover's deservedly low rating. Finally, be aware that if you are not a partner, a partner's son or a friend of the firm, you are only passing through. And usually only for one busy season.

We value all of our employees; they make Janover the great place to work that it is. We always strive to treat our employees with respect and the way they would want to be treated. We are proud that our employees consistently vote us “a best place to work” in Long Island and recently in New York City. Our management team takes employee concerns very seriously and follow our anti-harassment and non-discrimination policies when making employment decisions. Employees who have workplace concerns should discuss them with Human Resources or any other member of management with whom they feel comfortable.

Pros

Free parking with easy access to highways as well as local roads. Highways are nearby going to NYC and Long Island.

Cons

Old school cronyism is what it is all about. Promotions are not based on a meritocratic system but on who you know and if you are part of their crowd. Management is resistant to any sort of changes including ones that will bring their business additional revenue streams. Instead of throwing lame group birthday parties that one is forced to attend how about investing in the development of your staff? Encourage staff to attend off site CPE events. Stop having staff from having to allocate every minute of their time and focus on the value that they bring to the firm and not on how much you can bill clients based on the hours spent on engagements. Time based billing is not going to be around much longer.

Pros

Staff - great bunch of people to work with Best place for Interns to start their "careers"

Cons

Management is awful. Poor work/lof balance. No room for growth. Employee turnover is tremendously high. partners, CPAs, regular staff, can be terminated. Benefits...little to none. Reviews mean nothing. Staff meetings - useless and unbillable. Training is inefficient- like reading straight off of a textbook. "Summer Fridays" is not a good idea if you expect us to work late nights during the summer.

We were very disturbed reading your review. We thrive to create an inclusive work atmosphere, where people take pride in their work, and enjoy being part of a productive team. Your comments reflect that we have achieved this when you say the "staff – great bunch of people to work with" and the "best place for interns to start their careers". This of course, does not occur by accident. An atmosphere that values and respects members of the team will attract "great… people" and provide the "best" learning opportunities for people starting their career. As to your cons, we disagree with them and statistics support our position. Specifically: 1. Even during the busiest times of the year, we only require our staff to work 55 hours per week. Industry statistics indicate that this is on the low end in comparison to other firms in the accounting profession. 2. Our employee turnover is extremely low when compared to published industry rates in accounting periodicals such as Accounting Today and Inside Public Accounting. 3. The evaluation process occurs twice a year. This is a way to provide feedback on a timely basis. 4. Every staff person has a mentor of their own choosing who they can approach with any issue. In addition human resources and firm management are always available, and always have an open door. 5. We provide a tremendous opportunity for growth with advancement taking place at all levels including promotions to partner. 6. We've received great feedback from our staff for the things we do to make the atmosphere feel special including: a. Catered dinners Monday to Thursday whenever staff is working hours in excess of 40 hours a week b. Providing lunch on Saturdays when the office is open c. Closing at 1 o'clock on Fridays in the summer d. Sponsoring many different sports teams for staff members after hours e. Bringing in bagels and frozen yogurt during the day f. Keeping snacks and fruit readily available all year long g. Having get-togethers on a regular basis at local restaurants or sporting events Finally, we would like to conclude that we firmly believe in constantly striving for improvement. Accordingly, we would appreciate if you, or any other employee, came directly to management or HR within the firm, and give your suggestions and ideas, so that we may incorporate them in our culture. We thank you for your time, effort and contribution to our firm.
