Great Before Kids, Hard with Kida

      Pros

Great salary, fun people to work with, interesting work, great (unmatched) benefits

      Cons

It is really hard to maintain a work life balance and it is really easy to burn out. It is especially hard with young kids, there are days you will drop your kid off at daycare and not be able to see them before they go to sleep because you work so long. In my opinion, the benefits do not outweigh the sacrifices you have to make when it comes to family time.

Has perks but not for everyone

      Pros

Learning a lot technically, transparent about business practices and financials, solid training programs available, nice bonuses for hard work, $0 health insurance premiums, unparalleled 401k benefits

      Cons

Work life balance can easily go wrong. There are some people who manage it well, but it's extremely difficult to pull off. You have to constantly fight for yourself which is near impossible if you aren't comfortable with being assertive. People will dump tasks on you until you break. It has only gotten worse since working from home started. I've been burned out for months and there is no catching a break. The expectations are high and if you don't meet them, they will not hesitate to let you go.

LONG WORK HOURS - IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?

      8 Jan 2021 - Engineer - Marketing

      Pros

401K + End of the Year Bonus + a few additional $$ throughout the year ... Good first place to work right out of college. A good place learn (transition job). Most of people are nice to work with.

      Cons

LONG WORK HOURS, you'll pretty much work 9 + hours a day. This is probably company wide, but this review is how it is in the California region. If they sell you the half work day on Friday where you only work from 7:30AM to 11:30AM — it's not entirely true because the majority of the time, you will work past those hours; till about 3:00PM or longer because there's a lot of work to do and many deadlines that are typically last minute because someone along the process failed to do their work. You may get an end of the year bonus depending on how the company does but you have to balance it out and determine if it's worth all the exhausting working hours you put in. If you don't work long hours and only put in 40-45 hours a week, you'll be judged for not working harder, even if you're an efficient worker. There really isn't much down time, it's go go go! So be ready for really no outside life as work, life balance is difficult thing to achieve in the KH culture. Probably like most places, there's favoritism. There are some in manager/supervisor roles that clearly don't know what they are doing as a leader and have no idea how to manage a team. Don't plan on questioning anything as they will typically become defensive and throw the blame back on you. They need to learn to listen and try to see why and where the person may be coming from. Ask about what "UT" is so you are fully prepared on what needs to be done.

      Great place to work for!

      Pros

Excellent work environment, beautiful office space and location, business minded culture, smart colleagues, resourceful people, high profile clients, fast learning pace, incredible bonuses and 401k contributions, quick growth if you put the effort.

      Cons

Strict measurable goals, pressure to perform well and grow quick, little time left for creativity or administrative duties due to the high performance metric goals. Could be difficult for some to have a good work-life balance.

      Pros

The office is updated - thats pretty much it.

      Cons

You are underpaid and overworked - thats the best way to put it. “Extra effort” means you work 60-70 hour weeks, every week. Theres not “busy weeks” and “slow weeks” - every week is a sprint to 70+ hours, they are so disshonest about it in the interview process do not be fooled. They try to sell you on bonuses... after 6 months of working there, you dont care. I’m now working at 40-45hr job with no bonuses and a higher salary (they underpay engineers bc they try to sell the bonuses) and i couldnt be happier. Say goodbye to work/life balance here. Everything is going through a gatekeeper and as long as you have been there for over 15 years you can treat younger employees however you want.

      Pros

Streamline your career. Time spent at Kimley-Horn will put you leagues ahead of others in your field. You will work harder and have more responsibility than many of your peers. Performance based bonuses. Great benefits and 401K. Base salary is comparable to other firms.

      Cons

You must be willing to sacrifice your time and health to reap the benefits. Work-life balance is not a priority. Be prepared to work 12+ hours and weekends/holidays in order to meet deadlines.

      Poorly Managed Boutique Firm

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The benefits, pay, and year end bonuses are unmatched in the industry.

      Cons

50+ hour workweeks with no overtime pay or recognition, work-life balance being a running joke, shame culture, turning a blind eye to problematic practices and harassment. People that work here get stuck here; it is an abusive relationship between a broken and outdated company structure and it's highly skilled employees.

      No Life and No respect

      Pros

      Big Name firm in LD

      Cons

No work life balance, Everyone is Judgmental and catty, no respect for medical and or family leave, pressure to conform to their stereotype. The benefits look great but if spread out over the amount of hours worked you are better off at any other company.
