I have been working at King & Spalding full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Excellent benefits. Ability to complete higher education goals and maintain stable employment. Beautiful offices located in Midtown Atlanta. If you are ambitious and work hard, you can find enough interesting work to keep you busy for a couple of years.

      Cons

Job has absolutely no room for internal growth. LPAs are generally treated poorly and assumed to be incompetent. Notoriously toxic culture. Tenured LPAs are cliquish, miserable, and unmotivated with a history of relentlessly bullying others without consequence. The LPA position is shifting towards a younger crowd, (college grads with zero work experience who just want to stay a couple of years). Tenured LPAs...

      Advice to Management

Provide more internal growth opportunities, including executive level assistant roles, to those who are motivated to work. Foster security among the Tenured LPAs by recognizing and rewarding their work. Recent policies stripping them of their PTO and other earned benefits are not helpful or encouraging, nor do they reward their loyalty over the years. I can almost understand why some act the way they do. At the...

I worked at King & Spalding full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Compensation is the only thing I can think of.

      Cons

Leadership bottlenecked and long-term growth is minimal. There’s no inclusiveness, transparency or buy-in from upper leadership - just “do-as-I-day-because-I-said-so.” It’s a very sneaky environment, masked by the disguise of “confidentiality.”

      Advice to Management

Listen to your employees - ALL of them. Not just those you think are “educated and experienced.” Get all sides of the story, and for Gods sake stop focusing on the bottom line dollar!! You have tenured employees who have given years of loyalty and service who are being ignored and disrespected. Try to treat them with the respect they not only deserve, but that they’ve earned.

I have been working at King & Spalding full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

Great salary, good benefits (though not as good as in the past - although I think this is the case for most companies), office space has just been remodeled and is very nice

        Cons

In general, working with lawyers can be challenging - THEIR project is always the most important, forget anyone else's... you're expected to jump immediately, so workload scheduling can be tricky

        Cons

Downtown location is a far commute from the suburbs, highly demanding environment.
