I have been working at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The firm continues to grow and has a solid flow of insurance defense work to whether economic downturns. It is adding key people with great background from federal agencies, big banks, etc. to grow traditional 'big law' practices. They are open to good people who aren't grads of a Top 25 school, which is refreshing. Certain groups have very strong leadership, nice people and interesting work. Real estate and cyber...

    Cons

Pay is stuck in an insurance defense mentality. Lower than typical Big Law firms. Tech is getting better, but it runs slow sometimes. Health Insurance is expensive, especially for dependents. Additional disability insurance is also expensive.

    Advice to Management

Keep improving tech. Get better insurance packages. Increase wages to win and keep good attorneys. Keep expanding more traditional Am Law 25 firm practice areas to keep growing and improving Big Law reputation.

I worked at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Genuinely fabulous coworkers. The attorneys are fun, clever and more grateful than you might expect them to have the time to be. The staff is kind, helpful and hilarious. The work and cases can be fun and exciting and working collaboratively with the employees was more easy than not.

    Cons

For some reason the "office administrator" has become some sort of all powerful position in the office- immune to HR complaints and you won't have anywhere else to turn when she inevitably switches on you. I don't blame the managing attorneys as the hourly requirements and case load must be overwhelming. But the OA has ridiculously ancient view of what sort of professionalism an office should have, but tries to bandage...

    Advice to Management

Really address the root of the high turnover, please talk to your staff and come up with a more streamlined and consistent management style. The constant bridge burning with talented staff will bite you when you've gone through any possibly adequate entry level employee in Seattle because of your toxic OA.

I worked at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Big name firm, good benes, competitive salary.

    Cons

Management staff leaves much to be desired, high turnover, no team cohesiveness, no support for voluminous caseloads.

    Advice to Management

Rebalance the workloads. Purchase software and hardware that is speedier and actually works. Invest in ergonomic chairs and desks. You need an office manager that knows how to manage an office and will actually do so, and a management staff that instills a positive firm culture instead of incessant fear.
