      Great people, unrealistic expectations, "cheap"

      Pros

Experience varies by store, but my store generally had a very close relationship between part-time clerks, full-time workers, department managers, and even assistant managers. Most people were on the same page and wanted to work together to do good work. Lots of team support to help me managers learn their jobs. Company wants to be inclusive and have a positive workplace culture.

      Cons

Again, experience may vary by store, but my experience (just under 2 years as a department manager, 10+ years part time) is that store managers, and those above then that don't work at stores, have no idea how unrealistic their expectations are. This, coupled with the fact that the company was stingy and slow to replace old/defective/missing equipment, meant that everyday was a day putting out fires that probably could have been avoided with planning and foresight. This stinginess extended to implementation of culture; the company would push positive cultural changes they would like to see happen but was often too cheap to pay for the initial or ongoing costs those changes would take. -Even though schedules were created 2 weeks in advance, major directives were often dropped with only a few days notice like "complete reset of all displayers w/ photos". -In all the departments I've worked in, equipment failure was regular and often we simply made due with sub par or missing equipment but with no adjustment to performance expectations. Ultimately, in my experience, department managers are expected to do long hours to meet these demands and unionized workers are not asked, but are valorized, for staying to help with busy days or finish projects they should have been payed for. Since the labor budget is largely seasonal, so is morale. Should also be noted that getting training as a salaried manager is like pulling teeth. The company expects the community of managers and veteran workers to supplement training for new managers. However, many processes are done uniquely by different departments, so protocols do not always cross between different departments for many basic processes. On top of this, the company has introduced several new systems in last handful of years often with only a quick reference guide for training, so veteranship is no help here.

      Pros

Don't have to go to the gym after working as a picker. They welcome all people from all over the world.

      Cons

Performance based system that require working hard for long hours. Can lead to long term back problems and the pay is really poor when compared to the physical demand on the body.

      Pros

Honestly, the only pro is the company discount.

      Cons

Long hours, short breaks, standing for hours on end as a cashier, upper management is like high school, if you work as a personal shopper your breaks are not scheduled so good luck, and expect to never get approved for days off
