Toxic, Hostile Environment

Pros

We've got a nice office space.

Cons

This is without a doubt the most toxic, hostile work environment I've ever encountered. Scoldings, insults, cursing and screaming are nearly every day occurences. The COO is basically a Bond villain; the turnover in his departments says it all. There's been a 100% turnover in all management twice over the past three years. Employees routinely work 80+ hours per week, and most of us are expected to be on call 24/7/365. The firm is constantly pushing the boundries of ethical and legal behavior, as evidenced by the recent arrest and indictment of one of our international partners. Locke Lord is the reason there are lawyer jokes.

Dysfunctional Company

Pros

In the Dallas Office, which was the headquarters for this firm. The office is located in the Chase Tower and is aesthetically appealing. Nice doorman. Chase bank, Starbucks and a convenience store located inside. Shops and restaurants, doctor's offices, pharmacy and a salon are walking distance away. One block away from DART Station.

Cons

This negative review is solely based on the administrative staff, with the exception of the marketing team. Attorneys and their secretaries are not included, as well -- I had a neutral/good experience with them, so I can't say anything about them. So many bad things to say about this company. Since I was working in the corporate headquarters in Dallas, I was a direct witness to how these super high level employees operated. HR is broken, recruiting is broken, executive team is broken, everything is broken. Accounting staff has a turnover rate equivalent to that of fast-food restaurants. Executive Assistants can't keep their job for more than 3 months, as with receptionists. They either get fired or they quit. Why? Ask recruiting/HR as to why they keep intentionally recycling these positions once every 2-3 months. It's ridiculous. It's inefficient, and time and money is wasted to keep training new employees. This dysfunctional process inconveniences the employee for affecting their potential longevity with the firm, or any job. Back to square one. The COO and a very high level HR person is hard to please. They never smile back at you or reply to your "Good mornings!" either. HR is very meticulous about time sheets. If you had a doctor's appointment or anything causing you to miss work, they will borderline harass you for documentation and interrogate about your whereabouts. If you're an hourly employee, the clock-in system goes by 15-minute increments. That can either be good or bad.

Pros

The firm's Chairman, Jerry Clements is a tireless and honest leader, although she defers far too much to the non-lawyer CEO. The legal departments are run well. Excellent lawyers in historical areas of strength.

Cons

Administration is awful, other than Marketing Dept. Remarkably poor due diligence, budgeting and strategy in connection with EWP combination. Took on a horribly mis-managed firm on the brink of bankruptcy resulting in departures of everyone worthwhile. Stupid for a previously savvy firm.
