I worked at Lucasfilm full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some fine, intelligent, hard-working people. Beautiful corporate campus. Good dining commons, although, until he left, GWL took a cut of every dime spent there, so profiting from feeding his employees Often interesting work.

    Cons

Very low pay, not even close to Bay Area standards. No room for advancement, particularly for women and minorities. It's run like an old white boy's' club from the 50s. Lack of care for employees and fairly toxic politics. Retrograde technologies and resistance to joining 21st century.

I worked at Lucasfilm full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Working with renown Lucasfilm properties (Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, Full throttle, Sam and Max, Star Wars, Clone Wars, Indiana Jones, etc.). - Office campus location. - Extremely talented, creative people. - Movie, game, and swag perks.

    Cons

    - Low pay. - Poor retention of talent. - Poorly managed product development schedules (planning unrealistic time frames with 60+ hour weeks expected/accepted, planning to fail to meet deadlines/criteria). - Fear of confrontation allows unproductive employees to be shuffled between teams, indefinitely. - Too many meetings interrupt workflow (no work gets done because teams are continuously in meetings discussing how much work needs to get done). - Managers are unavailable because they are in meetings. Subordinates are forced to run the departments and make decisions to avoid prolonged downtime, then explain (email) to manager what their department is doing. - Constant miscommunication between internal & external teams, management, senior management, etc. - Time consuming employee appraisals/evaluations which have no apparent relation to merit increases (5-25 cents per hour pay increase, every few years). - Length of job title and responsibilities increase quickly, but pay does not. - "Who's President this week?"

    I worked at Lucasfilm

    Pros

-Location: The Presidio is beautiful and it's a pleasure to walk around the campus -Benefits are pretty good (while they last) -Nice cafeteria with healthy food options if a bit on the expensive side

    Cons

-Horrible management with supervisors and upper management who don't give a rat's patooty how much value you attempt to add to your job or how many hours you spend coming up to speed. They belittle you and try to tell you how marginal your progress is even when you're killing yourself getting work done. Oh and I forgot to add what a miraculously high level of hypocrasy there is in this company given that when internal communication is sent from upper management criticizing you, they don't even use spellcheck, so you can literally pick apart the grammatical blunders in their correspondence 1 by 1. -Backstabbing coworkers: ideally a place like this should be a collaborative environment with generally friendly and outgoing colleagues who work together. Instead, you need to watch your back like a hawk because as your coworkers smile at you one minute, they're trying to sabotage your job security the next and behind your back. Depending on the department, your coworkers also tend to be overly obnoxious and act like they've got a chip on their shoulder while giving you 20 reasons why they can't help. -Low pay that is nowhere near industry standard.
