VERY low wages. Ruined my life
10 Aug 2021 - Driver in Los Angeles, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
This job is fun and offers people the opportunity to meet new people and be in different locations every day. Great for an artistic personality.
Cons
The downside is the pay: extremely low amount of money for an excessive amount of driving. I worked 12 hours per day, 6 days per week and I could barely afford food. Living in LA, my rent was $1300 for a small shared unit. I fought every month to pay rent and I only ate 2 meals per day to cut food costs. Also, the job can be extremely dangerous: dangerous riders and the obvious danger of driving, which the later is no fault of Lyft's. If you get into an accident, your life could be turned upside down because there are no health benefits, no unemployment, etc. It's so bad that I will never order a Lyft or Uber for myself in the future as a rider.

Pros
Flexible Schedule. Bonuses are offered some weeks. Also, a few driver perks. Referral bonus available. You can meet new people everyday. If you feel uncomfortable you can turn on Last Ride and drive out of any uncomfortable areas of town.
Cons
You do not know where you are going until you accept a ride. If you drive for awhile that capability is an option but you have to drive pretty steady to get that work perk. You have to drive alone and sometimes you can end up in parts of town that may not be the best. You can potentially put thousands of miles on you personal vehicle and run it into the ground.

Pros
Pick your own schedule. Work as little or as much as you want. See the city where you live while driving. Meeting new people constantly.
Cons
Sometimes dangerous neighborhood pickups. Wear and year on your car. When gas prices soor your salary tanks.

It feels like a scam to work here (no I’m not selling knives door to door)
12 Oct 2021 - Driver in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I have found that I like be meeting all these new people and interacting with them. My Beginning stats reflect this with my little merit badges already super high and fives across the board and II just started. I’m good at this. I wish it was even jokingly sustainable. I enjoy driving. I’m not pan handling for cash or doing mouth stuff behind a circle k. I wasn’t before but beyond the first two, it’s a real reach to find pros. Ok, here’s one more: They don’t come to my house after I’m done and savagely beat me up.
Cons
Second week in and I’m struggling hard. Last week I made 150$ profit (that’s after the rental fee which they make you pay first). Factor in the personal miles you have to watch religiously or you get charged for that, this feels like a real scam. My cell phone bill is 70$. So that leaves 80$ for living large (in my moms basement lol). Oh and there are no minimums. I ROUTINELY take 3-4$ rides. And before I realized You don’t get paid for travel to the customer, I was driving 15-16 minutes to make 3$? Ugh. Now I don’t accept these rides as forums tell you to ignore them and not to worries about acceptance rate percentages as Lyft will screw the driver at every chance they get. It’s a real drag because if I was making even minimum wage I would probably give it a real go. As is, for a social experiment to see how much garbage I’ll take with zero reward, The answer is, more please! Naw, I’m done.

Great job but needs to pay better.

flexible hours and meeting new people
Cons
The pay isn’t all that great unless you have a bonus. Sometimes they’ll have you drive 20+ minutes out the way to pick up someone just to get three dollars. The ride starts once you swipe pick up.
