Good overall but several major issues
18 Sept 2020 - Medical Scribe in Orlando, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great experience working with physicians, learned a great deal of terminology/medications, and got the opportunity to network with other individuals in the field. Also, working from home was a plus.
Cons
When I was hired, it was not clear who was granted full-time vs. part time. Ended up working for a year and losing money due to being scheduled frequently for 0 hours in a week. Meanwhile, new hires with zero experience were given full time placements. Also, this job is remote and I am based in Central FL yet was placed at a site located in Oregon while some based on the west coast were placed at est coast sites.... very random and disorganized trying to get assistance from anyone regarding scheduling.

Pros
Ability to work from home
Cons
The pay per line of straight transcribing is insulting; VR editing rate is half of that (7 cpl straight typing, 3.5 cpl VR). They micromanage clocking in and out literally every time you step away from your computer while at home..... And you have to add back the time you were gone to the end of your shift... I don't know how this was legal at all.

A cog in a machine, but I get to work from home.

Working from home. No daycare needed for my kids. Learn interesting medical terminology. The pay is decent for what I do.
Cons
Work holidays, weekend work required. Number 1 would be this company would not give me FMLA when my baby was born. It was ridiculous, seems like it should be illegal. The only way I got a couple weeks off was my amazing direct supervisor saying she would take care of it, just take the time I need. Production based pay means you are always feeling the pressure to be fast, even as you are to keep near 100% quality. The company doesn't care at all for part time employees. It just keeps making more and more rules. Flexibility is gone. Options are gone. Employees are blamed when work goes out of turn, even if it is simply because a client dumped a bunch of extra work into the system at once. No benefits aside from 401K for part-time employees.

Great place for experience and flexibility (Software Engineer)
26 Apr 2016 - Software Engineer in Pittsburgh, PARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I worked at M*Modal for about 10 months before having to leave for family (moved out of state). The flexibility for your schedule is great (note though I assume this is based on the team you are on and your position). As long as your work is done and you work at least 8 hours a day, they are happy and you are as well. Needing to take time off for family is easy and you don't get a hard time for doing so. The pay is good for those starting out in the field (I can't speak to upper level titles). If you are looking to learn as a software engineer, M*Modal is a good place. The team I was on used many technologies, even those I had never used, and I got the chance to learn them and develop a broader range of skills (including system architecutre). Work from home is a great option (it is 1 day a week, however if you need more they are flexible as long as it isn't every week that you need more). Additionally, you set your work hours as long as you don't miss meetings.
Cons
The benefits are not the best, however they tell you that going in. They have improved though (we got much better health benefits this year).

It's an okay job.
8 Apr 2017 - Medical Transcriptionist in Franklin, TNRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
They have very high quality standards. They have a good QA department that corrects your work or fills in blanks, so there's always help if you need it. They've been very supportive in my dealing with an illness, but really I think that's partly because they don't really notice their employees. (There have been lots of manager changes in the last 5 years.) A HUGE pro is that I work from home! I've never had any trouble receiving my paycheck.
Cons
I only have communication with my direct manager and don't really hear from anyone else. No real sense that you're part of a team. I think because they're #1 in the business (their words) and strive to always be better quality than their competition, their expectations are borderline crazy. There are several different metrics that you're required to meet every month with regards to quality, production, submission to QA, and it's nearly impossible to meet their standards. There is really zero flexibility with the work schedule here. People think transcriptionists can just work whenever they want, but that's not the case at this company. You agree to work a specific shift just like at any other job and you are expected to work that shift.
