    Pros

This studio would be great for a young artist, just starting out, you’d get a ton of great technical and practical experience in a very short amount of time. If you can manage to hang on for three shows, you’d be golden anywhere you went after. But don’t stay any longer than those three shows . . .

    Cons

Deathly uptight studio atmosphere, no one talks to each other, and if you don’t speak French (Quebecoise) you’re generally made to feel very unwelcome. However, that’s a problem with the whole city and Provence, open antagonism towards English speakers and non-natives. Hours are long, and the pay is not that great. In particular the studio preys on young artists under work visas, trapping them into continued contracts. It’s criminal how crazy little they get paid, and they form the backbone of their workforce, sadly. Their complex and overly convoluted pipeline is a nightmare to learn. Then their training materials, which they insist you do, are generally broken and unhelpful. Compositing is actually the weakest link in the whole studio, being farmed out to barely trained artists in India, so they put a lot of pressure on lighting and matte painting to pre-comp as much as possible.

    Advice to Management

Treat your artists with more respect, pay them adequately, and they'd stay longer. Then you wouldn't have to constantly be shopping for new ones!

Former Employee - Senior FX Technical Director in London, England

    I worked at MPC full-time

    Pros

-It's paid work -People are generally nice/Friendly working environment. -Department hasn't yet moved to India.

    Cons

Inadequate pipeline and infrastructure. Low memory workstations make working on complex shots unnecessarily difficult. The majority of your time as an artist/TD is spent troubleshooting random errors or inacting workarounds to solve issues caused by the poorly implemented and ill-conceived fx pipeline and tools or by limitations of the general infrastructure (latency/bandwidth, disk space etc.). Suggestions from TD's to make improvements to tools and workflows are flatly ignored, even ones which are very minor and quick/simple to implement - these are brushed aside with the generic response from management- essentially 'we know the pipeline sucks but we plan to improve it some day'. This leads to a culture of people just sticking to 'tried and tested' workarounds, however inefficient they are. Also a lot of people have little previous industry experience, including ones in senior/lead positions, which generally causes more problems than it solves. These combined issues means the quality of the work suffers - don't expect many decent reel shots, as generally your work will be butchered downstream by inexperienced artists.

I have been working at MPC full-time

    Pros

    - Solid house with tons of projects - All levels of mastery in any craft!,.. from seniors to jrs from you can learn - Many activities (outings) going on organized by internal communications - Breakfast available

    Cons

    - Pipeline and tools can be really hard to understand for a new comer even for experience artist. - So many corners of things, and some times confusing management - Brute force when it comes to deliver a show (over time), not always but frequet.

    Advice to Management

    - Should prioritize task based on impact on system more than give it focus to some ones pets or agendas.
