I worked at Merck full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Salary plus bonus allowed living in Southern California.

    Cons

Inconsistent management, constant change that primarily changed the titles of the positions and the name of the selling model. No real changes to things that mattered like actual clarity in bonus goals. Good people trampled the assigned to cover the problems of favored underperformers.

    Advice to Management

End the good ole boys and girls club.

I worked at Merck for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefit package, company car, unlimited gas in company car even for personal use, work from home

    Cons

Need better people in leadership positions. Too many managers that are not good at managing people. Lots of favoritism and not a lot of career growth.

    Advice to Management

Train your managers to be good leaders. Leadership doesn't just happen. Managers should be trained yearly on how to lead. Training managers would change the culture and make Merck a much better place to work. Don't promote people to management positions just because they have good sales numbers. It does not always correlate to good managers. Despite culture scores appearing to be high there are many employees... that were shocked by the scores. Again goes back to your leaders.

I have been working at Merck part-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay and benefit package. Merck is ethical and has a rich history in pharmaceuticals and developing life changing medicines.

    Cons

Endless downsizing, no stability. Work/life balance is continually challenged. The industry as a whole is undergoing major changes like the rest of healthcare which is the driver for fewer jobs and much larger territories.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck!
