I have been working at Metaswitch full-time
Pros
Friendly culture - "small company" kind of feel Everyone is very willing to help Very open to people changing roles Weekly sync-ups with management Use of Agile/Scrum makes lots of processes quite democratic
Cons
Terrible at training graduates who don't already have a maths/computer science background. Very bad at training people for whom "on-the-job" training is not suitable. Very male dominated environment, very little diversity. Nearly everyone is an Oxbridge-educated, obsessed with Runescape type, with a Maths degree. Too much legacy technology Very slow salary increases Too London-centric Offices very tired looking (this is about to change with the new Enfield building) Not enough customer feedback gets back to Engineering

I worked at Metaswitch for less than a year
Pros
- very relaxed atmosphere, lots of sports at lunchtime, flexible hours - interns are well integrated into the company and made to feel like full-time employees - superb review and feedback mechanisms from and to management line - very cheap accommodation provided for interns
Cons
- the work tended to be quite dry - most employees didn't study any sort of Computer Science-related degree, so it felt like there was something of a skills shortage in that area

RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI have been working at Metaswitch full-time for more than a year
Pros
* You learn a lot * Will hire graduates even without programming experience and teach them * All engineering staff is really intelligent and good at what they do * If you prove yourself, you will be given more responsibility * Help is generally always available if you're stuck * You're not confined to one role, people move around between products and different engineering roles, developer/sales/customer support/testing, you just have to ask * Company is making a strong push to grow faster
Cons
* The field is very conservative, technology moves slowly due customers being slow to adopt new solutions * Salary is only average compared to similar jobs in the area even though the quality of employees is incredibly high * Since the company hires a lot of people without programming experience, there is a lack of general computer science knowledge
