Pay and benefits and various job locations. Learning many new things often.

Cons

Communication and the constant ability to instill fear into employee of losing a job over frivolous mistakes. Not good practice for employee retention. Engineers were great folks. In the Craft is a mix.

Steady Work. Pay and benefits ok. HARD to get fired if you show up most of the time and don't fail drug test's to often (I'm serious). If you get enough years in you retire with a pension (but you do pay into it, more than social security)

Cons

Managers typically are not very good. They walk around with a "god" complex (note the little "g") because METRA is afraid to discipline any of them. Manager's NEVER get fired. They hire flunkies from other Railroads and they stay there because Mediocre is the norm for METRA. Beyond the trades not much room for advancement.

Good Pay, Benefits and Vacation / PTO Days If you can get in the Pay and Benefits are great. But you probably need to know somebody to get in here.

Cons

Inexperienced Managers who only got their positions through political favors

Long hours and customers very demanding.

Total compensation package, including pay and benefits is pretty good.

It tends to be a bit bureaucratic.
