Pros
Good work/life balance If you work at headquarters (downtown) - it is conveniently located
Cons
Absolutely no room for advancement Upper management is threatened by new talent Extreme Nepotism at Play (Extreme) Inflexible work schedules Management goes by the mantra "that's the way we have always done it" Management retaliates against employees when they don't like something you have done (especially if you file a complaint) Inconsistent application and enforcement of discipline (especially for people of color)

OK Wage and Steady work, but

Steady Work. Pay and benefits ok. HARD to get fired if you show up most of the time and don't fail drug test's to often (I'm serious). If you get enough years in you retire with a pension (but you do pay into it, more than social security)
Cons
Managers typically are not very good. They walk around with a "god" complex (note the little "g") because METRA is afraid to discipline any of them. Manager's NEVER get fired. They hire flunkies from other Railroads and they stay there because Mediocre is the norm for METRA. Beyond the trades not much room for advancement.
