I have been working at Metro Self Storage full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Paid Time Off, Holidays off, Guaranteed hours, and Privately Owned

    Cons

Sales expectations are constantly growing, but that's common for any for profit business.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing

I worked at Metro Self Storage full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent benefit package/HR very professional/Sundays off

    Cons

This is hardly a family run company, as they would like you to believe. They are heavily micro-managed from the top. "Manager" is only a title;you have no authority to make any decisions. Everything must be approved. If you are looking for advancement opportunities, look elsewhere. They run very lean at the top. In fact, they run lean at store level as well. They refuse to adequately staff stores, constantly running on skeleton crews. New employees lack adequate training time due to under-staffing. Area management is overburdened with territory & can't perform duties (e.g.performance reviews, schedules, store audits) in a timely manner. Multiple policy violations occur everyday because management rarely frequents the facilities. They depend on secret shoppers to monitor your job performance. Job description does not emphasize their high sales expectations. Bonus structure is more stick than carrot.

    Advice to Management

You cannot manage people from afar. Either trust your managers to do their job, or give them hands-on leadership.

I have been working at Metro Self Storage full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company that cares about their employees. Love the hours out by 6pm. Not stuck behind a desk or only cleaning enjoy the balance of work. Closed on all major holidays.

    Cons

Insurance is a little expensive but other than that I have no issues with the company or job. I don't understand the negative on here.

    Advice to Management

I have met the owners and they are down to earth and actually ask your opinion on things as does the upper management. Keep up the great work!

    Pros

    Direct deposit paychecks. PTO.

    Cons

Secret shoppers. You have to follow a script exactly or else you lose points. The script is very robotic and awkward and makes you feel fake. Same with the "leads" that you have to call. You have to follow a script and bother these people up to four times. It's very cringe worthy. Everything is recorded (phone calls) and with cameras everywhere that the district manager can check on at anytime...you feel big brother is watching at all times. They are constanly on your numbers and calling you out through group email so everyone can see.
Cleaning storage units in all weather is no fun either. Insurance benefits are horrible. Covers nothing with a huge deductible. Still couldn't afford to see a doctor.

I worked at Metro Self Storage full-time

    Pros

Possible onsite resident apartment. Paid holidays and time off. Most properties are nice and clean. Basic training for your new role.

    Cons

There is no career advancement in most roles. Getting a raise is minimal, unless your role has changed. Moderate turnover with employees.

    Advice to Management

Management works hard to keep all the properties running without any issues. What they can forget is to keep the moral up when most properties go through a slow revenue period.

I have been working at Metro Self Storage full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you need money and insurance it's a job.

    Cons

They don't pay well at all compaied to how much work you do and how much money the properties make. Corporate is so concerned with saving money on stuff but waste money all the time. Upper management is clueless. You have zero authority over anything. No room for advancement. Jeez I could go all day but will stop.

    Advice to Management

Nothing to say. Done with advice.

I have been working at Metro Self Storage full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Family owned, owners care about employees. Excellent collaborative work environment. Excellent stability among key talented staff, long term President, CFO, HR Director, IT Director, Construction Manager and Accounting team. This longevity speaks to the quality of the company and its ethical business culture.

    Cons

In the past five years the size of our company has doubled. This has created growth challenges for all departments. Striking the correct balance between on boarding new employees into our organization while at the same time recognizing our existing employees excellent work will continue to be an area we strive to improve.

    Advice to Management

Since I am the CEO and Co-Owner of the company I welcome feedback from everyone in the organization and our valued tenants.

The schedule is ok, Overtime will be paid over 40hrs. The owners seem to care and management is accessible. The company will spend money to fix or improve a facitlity

    Cons

Benefits are subpar. Pay is just average. Their procedures for expenses and other daily duties are odd and tedious. Overall its just average.
