      Pros

Agile working allowing flexibility Nice head office Some longer serving staff were some of the nicest people I had met (shame they were being worked into the ground for no recognition or being made redundant)

      Cons

The CEO spent more time on holiday, in supper clubs and working on outside interests than focusing on how much he was running the business into administration. Absolutely no structure or guidance from the top down leaving a bunch of directors scrabbling around leading themselves in different directions Being made to do the job of 3 people with poor pay and any impossible task not completed was your fault A lot of back-stabbing from egotistical leaders who spent way too much time off sick or "working from home" for their 6-figure salary Being told constantly that we needed to promote a positive message spending money on pointless conferences when they knew all along they were going to end it and not pay their staff No one should employ the CEO to run anything else, he should go to live in one of his many properties and leave our Companies alone.

      Pros

Flexi Hours Friendly teams - team lunches, bring and share Great Holiday allowance - 25 days plus a 'Mothercare' day Whole office catch up weekly Nice office - modern and clean

      Cons

Heirarchical - emails can be sent down a chain of 5 or 6 people asking the person below them to do something until there is no one lower to send it to! Sales constantly down giving everyone a sense of worry 2 reduncancies in the space of a year Stuck in old processes - some people keen to change, some people not wanting change at all Head Office / Store divide - i.e stores getting Christmas parties but head office not getting anything

Accessibility for people not living around Watford, however the introduction of flexible working hours has helped!

      Pros

When I began to work there in 2013 it was a relaxed and (would even say) fun to work there. I was extremely lucky to receive a promotion from a CSA after 2 years but this is something that hardly ever happened so if your looking for progression don’t work for this company.

      Cons

It all started when the new CEO took control and got stuck in and began to “destroy” the company. The new CEO and the rest of head office made far too many bad decisions, they don’t support you in store and seem to have no idea what’s going on which then made us all look bad and unprofessional in store in front of the customers. I left the company on bad terms where I was faulty accused of something I did not do and was pushed out by management, head office point blank refused to help me which left me with no choice but to leave. You are also expected to work far more hours than you are contracted to, to then not get paid for it but get the time back in lou, but guess what, you never got that time back. So if you want to be treated like something you find on the bottom of your shoe come and work for Mothercare!

      Ideals and reality don't match

      Pros

Varied and interesting product range. Thorough training, you'll learn loads, from fitting a bra, to child development stages, to car seat safety!

      Cons

Usual cons of the retail sector. Big expectations with not enough resources given to achieve them. Frustrating and demotivating for committed staff who can't do the good job they want to do and are always running flat out to stand still. Demands increased while staff numbers cut. Feeling that head office have no grasp of shop floor day to day reality. On paper, the company "mission" seems great but this can't translate to reality.

      Good company to work for

Sep 4, 2018 - Customer Service Advisor in Liverpool, England
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

flexible hours depending on the amount of staff in the store. Easy job if you are a customer service advisor, can be trained on all departments within the store.

      Cons

Rota not done often enough/changes often. Head office ignore the important things like workplace safety standards and care more about just money making and pricing done within the store. Don't listen to store complaints from staff nor customers. Need more options of moving up within the company available.
