I worked at Mountain Equipment Co-op full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

MEC employs great staff and great Managers. I worked with Chris Krutzmann, when he was the Burlington store manager, for 3 years. Chris was very empathetic, supportive, the type of manager that made you want to do your best. He was and still is greatly missed from the Burlington location. If I ever have the opportunity to work with Chris I would jump at it.

    Cons

It would be nice if MEC offered rewarding incentives to long time employees, 10 + years of service. i.e. Monday to Friday hours.

    Advice to Management

MEC Head Office to be more supportive to Managers out side of the Head Office location.

I worked at Mountain Equipment Co-op part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Cheap gear. You may make a friend if anyone talks to you for the first six months. You can spend a whole shift doing very little and have zero discipline.

    Cons

-Obsessed with identity politics. -Strong P.C culture. -Incompetent Management. -Zero accountability. -Lazy slow paced co workers. -Unionized environment with no meritocracy. -Hi levels of entitlement. -Zero acknowledgement of technical abilities. -Lots of talk from management with no action. -Constantly virtue signalling. -Cult like atmosphere, you must agree with them. -Favouritism with hours.... -Managers that lie and smile to your face for such ridiculous reasons. -Management is not around, which leads to forms of harassment from co workers. -Older Staff joke about not talking to new staff until they have worked there for 6 months. -Ultra smug attitudes throughout. -Attracts people who have little to offer but want very hi pay and a lot of vacation time. -it is not the amazing super dooper totally awesome place you think, they have a good marketing team.

    Advice to Management

Management at MEC doesn’t want advice. They have the revolving door they want.
