Pros

- Pay is great - engineering is very compartmentalized, if you're into just working ticket to ticket and shipping whatever without really being attached you'll really like it. - great work life balance

Cons

- gender wage discrimination - you don't get to choose what you work on, even the slightest - you're unable to get attached to any part of the codebase - management doesn't care to help you grow. You're a cog in their machine, just like they are. You are completely replaceable. - depending on what team you're on, you may be asked to perform unethical things (it's kind of wild the terms they use when speaking about blatantly unethical or scummy stuff) - the only way to get what you want is to outbully others. Toxic genius's thrive here because they're not afraid to get into 15 minute long fights with management in large group calls. They get what they want, sometimes at the cost of others. The company is privately owned by a single individual and it shows in their product priorities. The focus is not user/broadcaster experience. It is "revenue strength" which directly translates to "we're not making the boss enough money". Not that different from other places, but kind of wild how this whole company exists at whim of a billionaire who really couldn't care less. (he once axed a project almost as soon as it went live because he didn't like it much. engineering had been working on it for over a year and had gone through countless validation stages)

Good, as long as you don't interact with CEO

Pros

The engineering team is overall nice to work with. Very introverted bunch. And any work you do will affect millions of people.

Cons

The CEO is the singular major downside to this company. Stay away from him at all costs. You will never meet a person with a bigger ego and lower intelligence. He has no regard for you or your time. He will show up to meetings under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and will change his mind every other day because he cannot remember what he said.

Pros

1. My core team was amazing. The people that I interacted with on a day to day basis were so intelligent, passionate about the work we were doing, and driven to succeed while also helping raise others up. 2. The company mission and the sentiment behind it to help every day people own their financial freedom in a way that works for them through a traditionally stigmatized and taboo medium.

Cons

Senior Leadership. The COO could not remember what my current title was while they were in the zoom call laying me off. The CEO does NOT know how to make smart business decisions and thinks their lack of qualifications can be fixed with "leadership conferences" instead of learning real business principles or getting the degree they lack- despite requiring degrees of all candidates applying for a position. There is no communication from leadership to their teams or any effort made to try and create a cohesive vision or business goals for the company to follow which made my job seem very aimless. When asked in OCTOBER, during the heat of the Great Tech Layoffs, about the status of the company and if MM was going to need to participate in layoffs, they said, "we're fine! no need to worry" and proceeded to throw a HUGE (Multi-thousand dollar) holiday party in December, only to lay off people come February. And they are still hiring, so either they cannot afford these roles and are choosing to hire anyway, or lied about not being able to keep staff. Leadership puts no emphasis on growing a sustainable company culture, just creates little bandaids to cover up problems. There is no trust built anywhere in the company. They have no regard for actual growth in their employees, only the growth that will make them look good. If you AND your manager weren't on top of getting you raises and promotions that you were asking for, it just did not happen. Performance reviews happened 2-4 months late, if at all. I saw a lot of mid-level managers being overworked, asked to do things above and beyond their roles, not be properly compensated for any of it, and then be completely disregarded when it came time to show results of their initiatives, with Leadership taking all the credit. Diversity at this company is a joke and nepotism runs rampant. A quarter of the workforce is just a friend or family to someone on the leadership team, but they have policies prohibiting any other employees from recommending a friend or family member to a position at the company. This company is basically just a way for the owners to role play as leaders when they're not off doing extreme sports.
