I have been working at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for less than a year

    Pros

One of the few places to work on space related questions. Southern California lifestyle and RDO Fridays.

    Cons

Very political. Managers like to hire people of the same ethnicity as them or people who went to the same school as them. Managers don't seem to care about real talent. The intern pay is very low.

    Advice to Management

Hire real talent. JPL is turning into a mediocre and political backwater.

I have been working at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for less than a year

      Pros

The people of JPL (managed by CalTech) are overall great! They’re passionate, intelligent, and hard working. Also amazing projects!

      Cons

The facilities of JPL (managed by NASA) leave a lot to wanted. The informational logistics technology available to complete work is very out of date. They are at least a decade behind the rest of the industry in terms of structural resources.

      Advice to Management

Find ways to make your engineering more efficient by giving them the tools to do so

        Pros

Great access to JPL employees for mentorship. Interns get to work on actual flight projects that will end up in space. 9/80 schedule is nice. I learned a ton.

        Cons

Compensation is below similar aerospace oppurtunities.

        Pros

You meet some of the smartest people in the world at JPL and everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand or tell you about their projects. It is super easy to land an internship for the next summer because there’s always someone willing to take on an interested student. There’s lots of interesting fields and projects to discover and work on and you get top of the line experience in your field as you’re tasked with...
