I worked at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for less than a year

    Pros

Good company atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and helpful to each other. Many opportunities to learn. They encouraged research fellows to attend the talks they held on campus.

    Cons

I've heard some mentors don't provide enough information to the research fellows, making it difficult to be produtive

    Advice to Management

Very good program but it depends on the mentors

I worked at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for less than a year

    Pros

Academic freedom. Learning is stressed. Chance to work on a project that you can call your own. A chance to see academia blended with industry.

    Cons

Organizational flaws sometimes impedes progress. The enthusiasm for space exploration felt underwhelming for what I expected.

I worked at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for less than a year

    Pros

There was a wide range of opportunities available for work. Additionally, there was a large amount of sessions that we could attend to learn more about the different areas the JPL operates in.

    Cons

The time like any summer internship was limited so it hard to fully see all the cons of working at a place like JPL

  4. "An eye-opening experience"

Former Employee - Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow in Pasadena, CA

I worked at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for less than a year

      Pros

I had the pleasure of working there one summer. It combines the perks of academia (intellectual freedom, stimulating environment) with the perks of industry (steady 9-5ish hours, less pressure to publish).

      Cons

Can be viewed negatively by professors as it's not a 'true' academic track (even though there are more positions at national laboratories than prestigious universities).

I have been working at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Awesome projects Chill atmosphere Great co-workers Overall a pretty fun place to work, if you're interested in aerospace, space, or anything with related to long-range communications and engineering

      Cons

Summer assignments can be hit or miss, could work on a rover or some random post-doc's project Interview process isn't really that rigid, so some interns aren't that great

      Advice to Management

None really, headed by Caltech so its pretty academically inclined
