Roller coaster ride

- The Company does offer great benefits and perks. - Exciting projects to work on - There are great people who care about the brand, the people and the work that we do.
Cons
- Massive re-orgs and layoffs every 12-18 months that impact 1000+ people. - Role and responsibility changes due to layoffs, forcing people into jobs that they do not want to do and changing the direction of their careers at Nike. - No career building regardless of what they promise. - Work load went from 65+ hours for 10 months to 30 hours for 2 months of the year. - Employees are nothing more than a number due to the size of the Company. - They have large amounts of ETW (Contract workers) that are business critical but are treated like second class citizens who spend years working as ETWs in hopes to get hired hired on as full time FTEs. - So many of the benefits and perks offered go unused since most people don't know what is available to them. - Moral bobs up and down like a yoyo throughout the year leaving large groups of people feeling unmotivated and unappreciated. - Some Managers are horrible at their jobs and should not be allowed to manage. - There are lot of BIG egos that clash on a regular basis making for an awkward work life.

No doubt depends on the part of the company you work in, but my experience has been phenomenal
19 Oct 2021 - Anonymous Employee in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I work with wonderful people who are both driven and caring. Management goes out of their way to emphasize the importance of work-life balance, and seems to genuinely mean it. Despite the various scandals Nike has been embroiled in over the last 5 years or so, I cannot think of a less sexist-feeling environment. The majority of leaders around me are strong, confident women, well-respected by their male and female colleagues alike, who aren't afraid to speak frankly and unapologetically about their priorities outside of work, which, as a new mom myself, I've been very grateful for. Great benefits as well, which keep getting better (though some more PTO would always be nice).
Cons
The way the 2020 reorg was handled was annoying, to say the least. An attempt at transparency backfired when incomplete information left us more questioning/paranoid than we might have been otherwise, for months. The changes that were made were then hardly explained, resulting in a lot of confusion. Short of that, I'm not sure any complaints I have are unique to Nike so much as the inevitable result of an organization this huge. My area of the company is still in its infancy, relatively speaking, so there are a lot of uncharted processes we're trying to figure out and navigating the "matrix" to get things done can be a nightmare, recent "simplication" (AKA reorg) notwithstanding.

Poorly run company but great perks
17 Sept 2021 - Applications Engineer in Beaverton, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Very fun place to work if you enjoy sports. The campus is also amazing. Great benefits too. Some teams solving interesting problems. Amazing place to work as a designer or in marketing.
Cons
I love to collaborate with others, but most other engineers at Nike highly dislike working with one another or just are not capable of doing it well. Furthermore there aren’t consistent / high quality team structures in place nor individuals with a successful track record in tech to drive the work successfully in most places (lack of quality TPMs). Last, the technology reorg took 1 year and 3 months to occur after it was originally announced. That is ridiculous.

Amazing people first company.
15 Jun 2021 - Director in Beaverton, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I was concerned about the size of the company and whether I’d be just a number or truly appreciated. This company is doing everything they can to do things right. They listen, they care. I’m truly blown away by my experience thus far! Great benefits, leader accessibility and truly thoughtful leadership a pleasant surprise.
Cons
Ability to prioritize and say no. It’s a challenge. Also the ability to work remotely if the job isn’t tied to corporate.Nike needs to evolve here. Even in collaborative environment employees are demanding this nowadays. Have to find ways to make it work.

Good Place to Retire
26 Jun 2021 - Senior Data Scientist in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Work-life balance is there, you can truly work 40 hours a week or less and still succeed. Summer hours are great, benefits are great, 401k matching is awesome. This is the perfect place to finish your career and coast into retirement. Also, looks great on your resume if you are early-career.
Cons
Duplicate work. The business has tension between "buy" vs. "build" and often has external vendors (or recently-acquired startups) competing against internal teams to build solutions. Vendors often win, which can be demoralizing for FTEs. Lots of work gets abandoned. Internal teams need to dedicate a lot of bandwidth to selling their work rather than doing their work. Huge organizational complexity. Death by meetings. So many meetings.

Pros
- Great Benefits (50% off company store on almost all products, free public transportation) - Trips (i.e. soccer game, white water rafting, etc.) - Summer Hours (work an extra hour M-Th and leave half a day early on Fridays) - Free access to gyms, workout rooms, classes, etc. (I believe there are 3-4 gyms with showers) - Nike Taxi (they advise you to use these when needed but free to use) to get around campus - Cool people (definitely a lot of sneaker-heads at Nike) - People are open to talk to you if you ask (i.e. I spoke with the designer of Presto React) - I was surprised at the amount of women on my team
Cons
- Company went through significant management change meaning there was a lot of gray area (i.e. my manager was promoted to another team during my internship) - Not much training (must speak up if you want something) - Work may/may not have a huge impact - Not a lot of people of color in technology roles (in fact, there are not a lot of people of color in Beaverton)
