      Overall disappointed in the culture

14 Apr 2021 - Merchandise Manager in Beaverton, OR

      Pros

Medical benefits, discounts, stock options, gyms, some really great/talented people, etc.

      Cons

Boys club/toxic masculinity/cliquey high school behavior Poor management and lack of servant leadership development Under-the-table promotions based off who you know/if you're a white male Stolen ideas/credit, broken promises, and blocked stretch opportunities for selfish gain Lack of senior leadership transparency Hiring BIPOC & women into senior positions to check "diversity and inclusion" boxes Expensive on-campus food Work/life balance is sometimes not respected and falsely promised Senior leadership doesn't necessarily care to push against the grain in a bold way, rethink processes, or see things from new perspectives - they have their own agenda Being told to speak up and then when you do, being told to shut up Essentially zero onboarding unless you get very lucky Many unethical people & processes Below-market pay coupled with higher output expectations the lower in band level you get Poor budget management and excessive/careless employee spending on the company's dime Not many growth opportunities for BIPOC, women (unless you suck up, drink the kool-aid, or are in the boys club) Employees are only a number in the grand scheme of things and are fully at the company's disposal Not in any way a sustainable brand/company

      Great experience, not perfect.

27 May 2021 - Retail Brand Manager in Toronto, ON
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

From my experience working for large Corp is never perfect and hoping for that is naive. Working for Nike has moments where you feel a part of a big family and the truth is, they are the leaders for a reason. Being a part of Nike, employees will gain invaluable experience at all levels in most functions.

      Cons

Reorganization happens too often, middle and lower management is completely discombobulated, communication around it is terrible. Nike needs to look at their sustainability. Retail needs to be less wasteful, POP and retail executions continue to be massively wasteful (most marketing materials ending in landfill ) Their compensation is good, their senior leadership has the scales tipped, they should find a way to ensure all employees make a living wage for the geography they live, this includes compensation for commuting. Work/Life balance, there is a unwritten rule that you need to give blood, sweat and tears to be successful there.

Offering employees the best workspaces and work experiences is a NIKE, Inc. passion — and you could feel that energy in Greater China today with the opening of the Yi Jianlian Building (YJB). Named after standout Chinese basketball player Yi Jianlian, the YJB Building is nine floors, 15,000 square meters, and 100 percent immersive in sport culture. It is also LEED Gold certified with innovative features — wellness lounges, massage chairs, nap pods, fueling stations — that consider employee health and nutrition and overall sustainability and accessibility. On hand to inaugurate the building with Greater China employees was its namesake, Yi Jianlian, John Donahoe, President and CEO of NIKE, Inc., Angela Dong, VP/GM of Nike Greater China, and Craig Williams, President, Geographies & Marketplace, NIKE, Inc. Designed to pay tribute to Yi's dedication and inspiration for Chinese basketball, the YJL Building also showcases Nike's commitment and determination to support China's sports industry and its Greater China teammates.
