I worked at NM Group full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The employees are mainly young professionals who are sociable and welcoming. NM Group has great potential if it manages to find a way to invest in it's employees more and keep them with the company. The office is very international which is a great way to meet people from all over the world. The lower managers and specialists were great to work under and learn from.

    Cons

There is a large turnover of staff, this makes the company feel unstable. The pay is very low for entry level (mainly educated graduates) and the more experienced people are also paid low, which doesn't give incentive to progress. The shift pattern is a mess, work 3 morning shifts (05:30-14:00), 3 late shifts (14:00-22:30), 3 days off. the company has just been taken over by Trimble and it seems like they are...

I worked at NM Group full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

    - A great working environment: There is a friendly atmosphere throughout the office. I could not have asked for a better team to work with, thoroughly enjoyed working with my everyone since day one of working at NM Group and there is always support if needed. - International Projects: I had the opportunity to work on projects in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK. - Working in a multidisciplinary team gives you...

    Cons

The shift pattern was the only major con for me. Working three early shifts (5:25am - 1:55 pm) followed by three late shifts (2:05pm - 10:35pm) then three days off. As a commuter to work with an hour drive the shift pattern was not ideal and quite antisocial for my personal life outside of work.

    Advice to Management

Look to changing processing team shifts to more reasonable working hours.

I worked at NM Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Being my first job out of University, this was a great company for me to gain both professional experience and enhance my GIS skills. Training was very good, everyone was very patient and friendly and I gained confidence very quickly. Immediate managers (Processing Team Managers) were easy to talk to about concerns/feedback and alway understanding. If you work hard you will be given more responsibility quite quickly.

    Cons

It sometimes felt like senior management didn't really understand the constraints the processing teams were under (i.e. would put pressure on us to meet a deadline but wouldn't consider updating hardware/buying more licenses ect which would help). Obviously the shift patterns can be hard, switching from morning shifts to afternoon shifts left me tired all the time and not having every weekend off was difficult although...

    Advice to Management

Listen to the needs of staff in processing teams if you are going to promise the client tight deadlines. Consider changing the shift patterns.

I worked at NM Group full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Was a very laid back place to work, Smart casual dress code which was more functional than suiting and booting. The work load wasn't ever strenuous. I wouldn't say a degree was necessary for the type of work that came through the door. As long as you had an eye for detail to classify certain point clouds, Topographic mapping, or PLS, it was as straight forward as that.

    Cons

I was unfortunately made redundant along with 20 or so others. The company won a contract and didn't deliver. And the staff had to pay the price for this. This was a huge negative for me. This was no fault but the companies. A chap moved down from Scotland 4 weeks prior to this, only to be told he's being laid off I always thought the basic salary was good, But being in other companies over the last two years made...

    Advice to Management

Don't make people redundant, then advertise their jobs 4 weeks later. Increase the pay. Train lower management. Granted, most of this might of changed, but back then, it was a touch and go place to work.

I have been working at NM Group full-time

    Pros

It provides graduates with the initial experience into the world of GIS and equips them with the skills to excel in the industry

    Cons

It does nothing to convince employees to stay. Basic pension scheme, basic holiday rate, free parking, slightly above minimum wage salary. Has alot of potential but I feel it is wasting it away. Needs to be more competitive.

    Advice to Management

Seek to offer reasons for employees to stay with a better pension scheme and competitive pay.

I worked at NM Group full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Having started fresh out of uni I came in at the bottom. Over the period of 6 and half years I was developed to become an experienced production team management. Plenty of responsibility was given to me and I was given a very good chance to develope. The atmosphere is very relaxed, even with stressful periods it is a pleasant place to work. Staff are friendly and welcoming. If you want social interaction there is...

    Cons

Firstly shifts, there are pros and cons, but having worked them for 4 years it became a challenge. 3 days off are great but it does make family or social life difficult. Reactive management, it can appear a bit disorganised at time's. The fluidity of priorities can sometimes cause unnecessary stress with little pressure taken off from additional workload to an already challenging workload. This being said it does keep...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff, understand what would make things better. Shifts, although great for overheads, it does encourage a higher turn over. And outside of normal hours productivity does reduce.

I have been working at NM Group full-time

    Pros

NM Group is a comparatively young growing company striving to grow year on year. I have worked here for over 5 years from an entry level position and progressed year on year in terms of position and salary. The specialist technical nature of the business means promotion from within is commonplace. The office in sunny Knaresborough is modern and a relaxed environment to work in.

    Cons

Many data 'production' roles operate in a shift system but not unlike other sectors such as catering and retail and the outdoor industry.

I have been working at NM Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I’ve worked at NM Group for less than 12 months, but have found the environment to be very different from how its portrayed in some older comments. There is a real sense of belonging, and being part of a shared vision. I’ve come for a different corporate background, and its refreshing to be part of a culture that values people and encourages new ideas. NM Group welcomes people who want to engage in the planned business...

    Cons

Some core functions within the business still need to be strengthened, so responses and actions may not happen as fast of you’d expect in a larger business but the vision is there to help overcome these.

    Advice to Management

Keep learning every day and take every opportunity to challenge yourself and your teams to move forward.
