I worked at Nationwide Building Society full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Great work life balance The people at the heart of the business are fantastic

    Cons

Middle management out of touch with the workers. Stuff gets done because of the team in spite of the managers, not because of. Ambition is huge, but still too slow at actually making the changes to enable this. The talent get frustrated quickly and become restless. Swindon.

Layers and Layers of management who show no leadership whatsoever Values length of service above quality of work Performance Management is very broken - Poor Objectives and no real management of poor performance Role definition is poor Very few career development and growth opportunities

"No promotions, if you want to move up apply for an internal vacancy"

    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Nationwide Building Society full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

If you are up for it there is a lot to learn by yourself. Others will help to explain or teach you.

    Cons

However well you performed, there is no concept of encouraging people via promotion. if you wish to move up wait for a vacancy and apply for it. The internal interview process is as same as external candidates. You can be good at what you do but if you fail to explain it in competency based interview ( not everyone is good at communication especially Technical people) you don't get it.

    Advice to Management

Recognize people for what they do by offering promotions other than frustration and demotivating valuable employees with the horrible interview process. You know how good or bad your line reporting is

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Nationwide Building Society full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    Work life balance , pension.

    Cons

Pay is lower than market average, poor poor location, little to no progression opportunities, lack of diversity - majority are white and middle class, extremely slow paced, a lot of senior people don’t seem to have a clue what they are doing, extremely poor management and leadership. A strategy that no one understand and knows how to deliver. People stay here for a long time which means same boring ideas and ways...

    Advice to Management

Reward and look after your employees, pay more, create clear opportunities to develop, re-train managers as they are too old school and not moving with the changing environment.
