    Pros

Exposure to cutting edge if you are in the right group. There are opportunities to grow if there is will. Great culture. If you have stuff you will grow otherwise sit and complain

    Cons

Few groups can be toxic but it isn't that bad. If you are capable and manage the org dynamics you will be a star

    Pros

Company's culture is good and employees work in a good team envionment.

    Cons

    * Company is not growing as it should do. CEO has been changed but don't see much efforts to turn it around again. * In current situation many employees are leaving the company and some of them are good employees. There are no major efforts to retain people.

"Layoffs drain away the confidence of employees"

    Negative Outlook

I worked at NetApp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Free beer on most Fridays, free cookies in the break rooms, a in-house gym, most teams have a good WFH policy. Central location, and a nice well maintained office buildings

    Cons

High performing employees are no longer confident of retaining their jobs, since there is absolutely no logic when it comes to laying off people. Even employees with top 2 rating have also been laid off. Moreover, layoffs have become an annual affair now...sometimes even bi-annual. If you manage to please your US boss, you may retain your job during layoffs. Indian managers have absolutely no say....they even do not know who in their team gets laid off. The HR is mostly non existent after your joining formalities are done. The team that I was part of had absolutely no interaction with the HR team during the 5 years of my stay there, except during hiring and during the annual layoffs. My peer level managers too mentioned they meet HR only during these times. The salary packages are now way below the industry benchmark. It used to be attractive about 5 years ago. Many teams have not got any salary raises last year and this year....and the bonuses have been miniscule in comparison with what was paid around 5 years ago. Career growth in India is limited....favouritism is raising its ugly head in many teams, especially since the few projects that come to India are very reluctantly given to India by the US bosses. Looks like they are aiming to have only a marketing and sales presence in India in the years to come. It was truly a great company to work for till about 3 years ago...not anymore.

I have been working at NetApp full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Just a few weeks into my job. The Pro that I could notice that the teams have been giving a lot of attention to their work and deliverable. I have not seen a lot of chaos. Everybody seems to be sincere.

    Cons

I observed that to keep the release dates intact employees are being asked to work over weekends. VP level seniors have asked team members to work on weekends as part of communication in all hands meeting. Program Manager has no Program Management functional team in NetApp. Everyone - Development, QA, Program Management report into Director of Engineering. In my previous companies, Project/Program managers used to have a separate job function with Manager/Director of project/program management leading the team and reporting lines used to merge at VP level. This gave project/Program management function more fire power to get the work done and take independent and neutral decisions.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work place and environment is okay. Beer bash and soft drinks for free.

    Cons

    - The Bangalore center is predominantly involved in maintenance and low end QA work - The work culture resembles a IT services company than a product company - Air is thick with politics with a very thick layer of top management. - Most of the top management in India have got a level higher promotion in Netapp as compared to other organizations like Cisco, HP, EMC, Dell and others - Performance appraisals are a farce. Cronysim and Sychophants have a field day in the company even if they have brought nothing of value. - Layoffs and Organizational changes are very frequent and there are not based on performance. Most teams who were doing product development work with significant ownership have been laid off and the residual teams are into low end maintenance and QA work - HR is rude and arrogant and aligns with top management rather than employees. Candor is tolerated and people who have concerns are slowly made to leave.
