I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

+ The culture used to be awesome, really refreshing compared to most other companies. But lately, this is changing quite a bit (see cons). + Compensation is reasonably competitive. + Work is challenging and you get to learn a lot (but depends on the group). Good work usually gets recognized (but again depends on the manager).

    Cons

-- Culture is definitely degrading, perhaps due to the effect of a string of layoffs in the last 2-3 years. People are becoming political and trying to protect their jobs, creating overlaps in charters and agenda resulting in a lot of uncertainty for the engineers and managers, e.g., what's happening between ONTAP and Manageability. Already lost a couple of people due to this, and more will follow if not resolved quickly....

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Top notch CEO in George Kurian, an aggressive, intelligent chap with great potential to take NetApp to new heights. Very employee friendly work environment. Brilliant products.

    Cons

Very slow to adapt to changing market dynamics. Taken too long to recognize and act towards strong trends of cloud storage, distributed shared-nothing storage, new age distributed databases.

    Advice to Management

Believe in your engineers and encourage them to engineer products that can help NetApp enter new markets. Too much investment is going into sales off late which will boost immediate numbers but can't ensure long term health of the company.

    Pros

You are paid to the best standards in the industry. Great work culture and helps you to achieve great work-life balance.

    Cons

Storage industry is taking a hit because of various cloud providers. NetApp is one of the companies which is getting affected by the change in the industry and this can affect anything you are working on.

    Advice to Management

I would say, avoid bias or prejudice when it comes to the work done by employees. I would say this to management not in the direct chain above but others as well.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at NetApp full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Compensation higher than market average for years of experience - Good for those from / interested in the storage domain - Positive work culture, respectable company values, and perks

    Cons

    - Leadership not agile enough to embrace the cloud paradigm - Constant reorganisations introduce upheaval and dilute product focus - History of layoffs in recent times - Difficult to move to other domains due to the highly specialised nature of storage industry

      I worked at NetApp full-time

      Pros

The first month and that's it

      Cons

This is one of the most toxic work environments you will ever come across. It's all down to management. If you are a bit different, you will be in trouble. Team managers despise each other, constantly bad mouthing to those who report to them and sharing their own contempt of their reports amongst each other. Discriminatory language is acceptable in their view and being former TSEs, the team managers believe that they...

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

NetApp has a forward plan that is communicates to it's employees. And it's actually taking the steps openly to make these changes. The new management team from the CEO down are very competent and honest about what is needed to be done and what is at stake if we are not successful in this transition. Expectations are clearly laid out for staff on what they need change and focus on for all of us to all be successful. ...

      Cons

Changes mean lots of people that can't or wont change the way they do things and the skills sets they have will be let go. This can hurt moral for the short term. No one like to come to work and see their friends being walked out the door. New accountability mandates can lead to people feeling like the could be next to be let go. although this has stabilized quite a bit in the past year. List of Cons -Customers are...
