I worked at NetApp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great engineering talent. Good perks above market average. Geroge Kurien has transformed the company in last 3 years.

    Cons

Middle management still needs to improve a lot. False promises. Biased reviews. Politically motivated. Stagnated after few years. IC 4 and above expectations are unrealistic.

    Advice to Management

Promote talent based performance and merit. Stop playing politics. Remove stagnation and assign realistic individual goals.

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

good work life balance campus is good

    Cons

-works on ancient technologies with slow growth -middle management is bloating up and usually doesn't care about employees - managers are worshiped and trusted -still stuck in the old style of management - most of the positive reviews will be by managers here and not by engineers

    Advice to Management

    - take stock of what the managers are doing and what are they actually contributing - seek more employee feedback - stop seeking feedback from managers since that will be biased

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

An employee friendly company with lot of benefits(Fully equipped GYM, Company leased car, Medical Insurance, Beer bash etc). Innovation is the key for company's success in the Storage industry so engineers get the opportunity to work on cutting edge technology projects. First line managers are very competent, friendly & ensure engineers are not over loaded.

    Cons

Incompetent Middle management Frequent lay-offs Declining product revenue

I worked at NetApp full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Cutting edge technology, wonderful work life balance. Senior management is always within reach and keeps in touch with the employees with the all hands.

    Cons

Poor middle management. No innovation of late and strategy is to consolidate rather than invest in new avenues. Needs focus on quality of the products and customer satisfaction.

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great work culture with better work life balance. Good technology to work on. Get enough flexibility and free mind to work on a given feature.

    Cons

Not hire a right talent sometime. Lot of politics in middle management. In some teams, more often you find people doing politics than actual work. Very tolerant for under performers.

    Advice to Management

Instead of just looking at the numbers start worrying more on the quality and innovation.

    • Compensation and Benefits
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Bangalore

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Rock solid business. Very strong top management. No brash decisions. Its non-back-stabbing culture. Leader in thought leadership in storage technologies, though being challenged by startups, off late. Aligns very nicely and quickly during challenging times. Inherent culture of trust.

    Cons

Weak middle management. Slow in reacting. Does not take hard decisions.

    Advice to Management

Must incubate ideas more aggressively. Put that cash pile to better use - make some serious acquisitions. Deal with mediocrity more stringently.

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Fresh bananas in the office

    Cons

Very weak middle management. You won't get paid the commission you expect if you're in sales. The company fails to uphold its own code of conduct. Everything takes forever to get done, if at all. Very arrogant and ineffective management and lots of people walking around full of their own self-importance. So much so you'd think they'd just cured cancer

    Advice to Management

Start employing management that are skilled at their job rather than people who have the right friends. Too many square pegs in round holes

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Benefits including 40 hours of volunteer time off annually. I've been in the same position for 10+ years and love my team. We are tight knit and function well together.

    Cons

All of the business orgs operate as if they are their own separate company and want all the tools customized to their need. While George Kurian calls for transformation and for us to become more sleek and efficient middle management doesn't seem to be following that lead outside of prod ops and sales. The company is all about sales, which is great, but their support operations...

    Advice to Management

Don't forget about support. Selling is great, but once you have the customer keep treating them the way you did when you were trying to land them. Update your older tools so the support teams can have a more streamlined and comprehensive view of the customer. And get in touch with your individual contributors. They can tell you where middle management is lacking.

I worked at NetApp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The benefits are competitive and the salary was good. The people were for the most part great to work with. Culture and values historically were good but have taken a beating in the last couple of years. There was an upper management effort to turn this around but I am not sure how successful it is being.

    Cons

As the company struggled the atmosphere took on a very political tone. At the middle management level the focus became much more short term at the expense of long term prosperity. Upper management seems to have a long term plan but communications seemed to stop at middle management creating a lot of uncertainty for the workers.

    Advice to Management

Keep in mind the long term value of a positive environment and culture to the ultimate success of the company and work to keep the politics out of the middle management
