Pros

working remotely made this job slightly more tolerable, but in truth, there were no real positives here. I watched colleagues get scapegoated and fired for things that ultimately rolled up to unbelievably poor management at the very top. everyone on staff worked inconstant fear of the CEO's wildly unpredictable mood swings and abusive tone.

Cons

the owner of this company is certifiable -- a true crazy person. ask any ex employees or industry insiders and they'll tell you the same if they're being honest. everyone on the team was miserable and routinely verbal abused and otherwise mistreated, mainly by the CEO. I was warned by EVERY single person I talked to beforehand to NOT take this job (and there were quite a few people I spoke with), and I should have listened. one ex employee wouldn't even talk with me for fear of reprisal from the company's CEO. this was a really miserable place to work, not unlike being part of a toxic, dysfunctional family.

While Glassdoor is a forum for employees to offer their candid feedback regarding what it’s like to work for an organization, we do hope that anyone leaving comments here would do so in a professional manner and not resort to personal attacks. Additionally, it’s questionable that an employee, a remote employee, would remain with our company for 3 years when they were unhappy. That’s not a healthy relationship for anyone and we want only the best success and growth for our employees. We have a company filled with ambitious, talented people, many of whom are long standing. Not all individuals are made for agency work, as it is deadline driven and requires a unique skill set consisting of extreme flexibility, creativity and energy. Apparently, this former employee was unhappy, we are sorry to find out about it this way and that they didn’t take part in our open door policy to discuss any issue they may have had.

An unprofessional work environment

Pros

I worked full-time at Nexus Direct for about 2 years. During my time with the company, I enjoyed the nature of the work and the projects that I had the opportunity to be a part of. Working for the people of this company in particular though, was a more challenging experience, and ultimately why I chose to move on to another company. There were great client relationships, the campaign projects were interesting, and although I can only speak for myself, the salary was fair.

Cons

Despite having a good industry reputation and good project opportunities, the structure of management at Nexus is really hurting an otherwise profitable company. There are talented people working here, but in my time at Nexus I saw too many talented people let go or passed over and too many less-than-stellar people promoted simply because they were already in established management positions. As someone who values a work environment that fosters mentorship and collaboration, this should be a major red flag. I have never witnessed such a toxic management environment. The CEO raises her voice to lash out at employees in front of their peers, leads by manipulation, and sets an example of throwing blame and covering your own tracks at all costs. It was a very unprofessional way to motivate your employees. If you are someone who is considering working at Nexus, I would advise you to pay attention to how you are treated during the interview process. I often felt embarrassed to witness how unprofessionally candidates were treated. Mostly this meant interviewees hanging around the office for hours and hours waiting on the next interviewer. But it was also a lack of respect for following up with them. I overheard an HR employee laughing with a colleague at the audacity of an interview candidate who called to follow up after 2 weeks of hearing radio silence. I had friends that asked about job opportunities while I still worked at Nexus, and I warned them against applying. As long as the existing management is in place, I would give the same advice to anyone.

While never enjoyable to read, we take this feedback seriously, as we take all employee feedback, and we want to thank you for providing your viewpoint. When someone leaves we conduct an exit interview, precisely because sometimes folks feel they can be more frank as they’re leaving. We’ve used employee feedback to streamline our hiring process, expand the benefits we offer employees, guide our charitable involvement, and shape the office culture. We’re a small entrepreneurial business with demanding clients and a culture of high expectations. It’s not a fit for everyone — some employees find it energizing, while others find it stressful. We strive to create a workplace where all employees can do great work but still have work/life balance. We’re building a company where a range of employees drive the business forward and share in the growth. We hope that anyone considering coming to work at Nexus Direct would examine us as closely as we’d examine you, and together figure out if we’re a mutual fit.
