I have been working at Nordstrom full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nordstrom is an honest company that truly values it's employees and is incredibly customer service centric. It's a company you can be proud to work for. It is a company that believes in doing the right thing and providing exceptional care for their customers. In addition, Nordstrom takes careful care and consideration in developing their employees.

    Cons

The retail environment can be trying and moving up in the company can be difficult now that they have downsized management positions. In other words, they have much less management positions in comparison to the past. Management positions now require a much larger scope of responsibility than in the past.

    Advice to Management

In my particular area the pay is based on a hourly plus commission status, however with the larger scope of responsibility it is difficult to reach sales goals to ensure it is possible to make a livable wage.

    I worked at Nordstrom full-time

    Pros

Great people still work there Merchandise discount is awesome Best place to learn customer service

    Cons

Constant turnover in senior leadership All newly hired leaders in past 18 months seem to come from one company and cronyism is rampant Annual poster campaigns announce changes in direction and are never followed-up on to show how Tech org did in it's last [insert catchy name here] campaign went Advancement is more about who you know and not what you do - "my way or the highway," is very alive Senior leadership... tends to leverage fear and intimidation techniques, which is so counter to the Nordstrom values and it has driven away long-tenured people

    Advice to Management

Find some senior leadership that doesn't share a common background or history with the CTO. Insert somebody who can drive the business initiatives while still holding true to the values that made Nordstrom a great place to work in the past and could easily do so again.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    They have benefits & it's a well-known retailer with a good reputation.

    Cons

They are struggling like many retail stores are now. The online customer service & shopping call center is fast-paced and stressful. All calls are recorded and employees must meet statistics requirements and grades on their calls. Customers demand the highest standard of customer service and sometimes the impossible. Team manager is graded on their team's statistics so employees are always under pressure to perform... even better. The health insurance company is so-so and not accepted by some doctors.
